10 Ways I Learned To De-Stress

On top of college being stressful, finals and final grade posting weeks can be very stressful... Here are ten ways I learned how to de-stress this semester.

1. Clear your mind.

Power of Positivity

This can be a task in itself, but picture it like closing the tabs on your web browser.

2. Make a list.

Medium Corporation

I make about a thousand to-do lists, and it helps me not only stay on track, but also remind me which assignments/tasks I should be doing.

3. Physically cross things off of your to-do list.

1000 Awesome Things

There is nothing more satisfying than scribbling out a completed task or assignment.

4. Talk about your stress.

Yoga Journal

This is a great way to let all that stress out; holding it all in will be much worse.

5. Invest in some de-stressing products.

Guru Nanda

I personally love to diffuse lavender whenever my life gets a little hectic.

6. Take a step back and reassess the situation.

Reddit

Sometimes, I don't even realize when things are getting too crazy until I take a step to analyze and reflect on why a certain event was super stressful.

7. Work ahead when you can.

News Scientist

During less busy weeks, I make sure I allow time for working ahead, especially on longer projects, several page essays, and studying for tests.

8. Don't overbook yourself.

Pointers for Planners

This is a huge one for me; I tend to take on way more than I can handle, which in the end, only hurts my mental health.

9. Don't enable yourself.

Liberationist

If you know you are going to procrastinate something (like I do), the easiest way is to not put off chores, homework, etc. because you will only be more stressed about it when it all comes crashing in later on.

10. Treat yourself.

This is a commonly used phrase that sometimes gets people into financial trouble... it could be even just taking off work or cooking a nice dinner for yourself!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
