10 Ways to Become Happier In 2018

1. Worry less about how others perceive you; place more value on how you view yourself

Of course, it's always important to put your best foot forward, but as long as you're happy and you aren't hurting anyone, be yourself! Being caught up in worries of self-image is not only unhealthy mentally, but is exhausting. You will be so much happier if you can learn to accept yourself. You will become a far more confident person if you begin to better yourself for you, not for others.

2. Remove negative energy from your life

Although ending relationships of any kind can be difficult, distancing yourself from those who make you feel anything but happy will positively impact you; especially in the long run. The same thing applies for hobbies, activities, and career choices. If you don't like your job, change it! You are in control of your own life. The sooner you can acknowledge this, the better off you will be.

3. Drink water

This may seem stupid, but drinking a lot of water will make you feel so much better, and it's good for you. If you want a simple way to feel energized and refreshed, start drinking water as often as you can.

4. Be active.

Although we all love our lounge days, being active will not only improve your health physically but also mentally. There are so many ways to be active, find which one you enjoy and stick with it.

5. Give your best effort to things that are important to you

It is so much more rewarding at the end of the day to be successful. Don't let procrastination and other distractions determine your performance. Remember what your goals and priorities are and don't lose sight of them. With success will always come happiness.

6. Don't dwell on things you can't change

Dwelling on things only creates unneeded stress. Whether it's a relationship ending, a bad test grade, or really anything that comes at you; some things in life are just not changeable. What you can change is your attitude. You can't let bad things that aren't in your control determine your happiness. In tough times, surround yourself with people or things that you love.

7. Don't hold grudges

In the end, life is too short to hold grudges. Being on a good note with people will make you far more relaxed. Accept apologies and give them out. Don't let people walk all over you, but if it's possible, forgive and forget.

8. Eat a good balance of healthy food and comfort food

Eating healthy food is important, it makes you feel energized and just better in general. However, don't completely deprive yourself. Treat yourself when you feel it's right.

9. Find the good in every day

Even if you have a terrible day, take a minute to sit down and remember the things you're thankful for. Try to find something positive in each day, even if it's small. Over time, your attitude will improve and your positivity may rub off on those who surround you.

10. Be kind to people

If you want happiness to come your way, spread it. Being kind as often as you can, will make you feel so much better, and will also help you create more meaningful friendships. Always remember, we have no idea what others are going through. Reach out to old friends, pay for a stranger's coffee. Essentially, treat others how you would like to be treated.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
