10 Ways To Overcome The Winter Blues

This winter has been awfully cold, which takes a huge toll on a person's mood. I know I have been bored out my mind since I have no energy to really do anything.

Winter blues are almost inevitable, but they can sometimes drag a person's mood down to the point they go into a deep depression, but don't be discouraged! There are ways to overcome them, including the following:

1. Sleep six-eight hours a night

I cannot stress enough how important it is to get a full night's rest. Try to get to bed before midnight so you can get up before noon and seize the day ahead of you.

2. Drink water

Dehydration can seriously take a toll on a person's energy. At least 2 liters is all it takes to keep hydrated and feel more awake.

3. Keep active

Do not lay down for extended periods of a time; it will induce drowsiness. Sure it's not ideal running weather, but there's plenty of things to do around the house. As boring as chores can be, they can really help keep busy and distracted. Stretching and doing a full-on workout works wonders too.

4. Reach out to old friends

Check in with those you haven't reached out to in awhile. I'm sure they'd love to hear from you!

5. Wear cute & comfortable clothing

Even if you're at home in the freezing cold, wearing clothes that make you feel good can boost your mood.

7. Write

Vent your frustrations so they're out of your system. Another reason to join the Odyssey team!

8. Get in the kitchen

Spice up your favorite drink or fix up your go-to comfort food. Omega acids in fish can help you feel better.

9. Read a book

When you read, you lose yourself in the text and don't think about anything except the story. Another conversation piece later on!

10. Have a spa day

Give yourself a facial, do your hair and/or nails. Just put yourself first this winter and have fun in the process!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
