The midwest is well known for our approach to the winter months. Here are some of the ways we've learned to handle it all.
1. You know that your car most likely won't be getting washed between November and March.
What's the point of washing off all of the snow and icey residue when you know it will all come back next week anyway?
2. You know that the temperature doesn't actually matter.
It's all about the wind chill.
3. You've learned exactly the right way to defrost and remove snow from your car.
If you let the car heat up first, scraping away the ice doesn't suck as much.
4. Speaking of scraping, you have a love-hate relationship with your scraper.
It's so necessary, but your heart just sinks a little thinking about it.
5. You always have at least three chapsticks on you.
Who likes dry lips?
6. You've learned precisely what salt and plowing trucks sound like.
And your heart starts to hurt a little whenever you hear the salt truck coming.
7. Every night you pray for a snow day.
Only to not find out until early the next morning, when you've already gotten ready for school.
8. Snow driving was something they had to teach in driver's ed.
But the thought of it still sometimes scares you.
9. No matter how many times you've had to walk on ice, you'll still always fall at least once per winter.
And the bruises to prove it last for weeks.
10. You have multiple coats and jackets for varying weather situations.
And having to wear a scarf every day means that you have plenty.
