Summertime has been a blast. But maybe you took summer classes, or worked 40 hours a week. Whatever your summer was for you, I hope that you found time to let your mind relax because a new semester is coming up quickly! It is important that your mind and body are strong and steady as we come up to a new semester. With that being said, I have to remind you of ten ways that you WILL kick butt this semester.
You WILL pass your classes.
Let’s remember that college is about class. Yes, it’s about a lot of other things too, but class is your main priority. You are going to pass them!
You WILL find time for yourself.
If you don’t find time to do things for yourself, like go to yoga class or maybe read a book, then you will not really be there in all of your classes. It will become a cycle that you don’t want to be a part of.
You WILL eat some healthy food.
Every semester I eat well. But then I sort of fall off track, and I begin to eat the not-so-good stuff. Last semester I had so much pizza I thought I was going to start looking like it. I would grab pizza because it’s fast, it’s easy, and it’s pizza! Also, it can be comforting when you’ve had a long week. My point is, maybe you won’t eat perfectly, but try to swap the crappy stuff for some of the good stuff. The better you eat, the happier your brain is, the better your body feels, the more you will actually be there in your classes.
You WILL have fun!
There are so many fun things to do when you are away at school, so take advantage of them! Whether that means going to a costume party or going to the movies, treat yourself to some good ol’ F.U.N.
You WILL try something new!
Try to join a new club or organization. Try donating blood if you’ve never done it before. Maybe try sitting in a different spot in the cafeteria or in the library. Whether it’s big or small, try something new and see if it changes your perspective on something.
You WILL take advantage of your resources.
Don’t be afraid to reach out to professors, staff members, or other students for help. I reached out to a student and he gave me tons of advice for my internship interviews! But also, there are other types of resources like the Writing Center(Seton Hall) where you can go for tutoring or help with editing papers. Sometimes I get lazy and don’t take advantage of this extra help, but it can really make a world of difference! So if your college has resources for writing, math, languages, or anything else, take advantage!
You WILL NOT overbook yourself.
What I mean by this, make sure you have time for all the things that you want to do. It is easy to be overwhelmed and stressed out. But again, you don’t be kicking much butt this semester if you spread yourself too thin. So do your best to manage your time but also make the most of it.
You WILL push past your own limits.
I look at the fall semester as a time where I can really challenge myself. The weather will be nice a little longer, and my time doesn’t need to be miserable and cold. I want to grab my schedule by the horns and take it for a ride. I think you can do that too, just go into this semester with a kick-ass attitude.
You WILL try to get enough sleep, at least on school nights.
I always want to stay up late, but I also learned that my body needs the sleep. It’s fun to stay up late and hang out with friends, but my classes definitely started to feel the wrath of that decision. I’m not saying that you can’t stay up late every night and be a zombie the next day. That’s totally fine. Just know that it isn’t going to help you in the long run. Have your fun, but be mindful about what you have the next day.
You WILL remember that even though you are having a bad day, it isn’t the end of the world! There is always tomorrow! And that means there is always time for you to start over.
