Winter Break consists of mental relaxation and celebrating the holidays. As a student returning home after finals week, we can all relate to Buddy the Elf -- whether it's getting used to rules again, gorging yourself on homemade meals, or spending time with friends you haven't seen since last break. A new semester awaits and the end of the another has just sunk in. But first, we have time to spend with family and friends, to decompress, and to get things together before the new year. Buddy, you give us many moments to relate to.

1. When you return home deprived of quality/homemade food

Christmas time means baking, cooking, and spending time in the kitchen for many families. Although I don't plan on trying Buddy's chocolate, candy, maple syrup pasta, you can find me where the cookies are. Thank you, Mom, for this one; I missed your cooking.

2. When your school duties are over and you can finally celebrate the holidays

That feeling of pure excitement when the stressful week from finals is over and you can finally go home and get into the holiday spirit. Another semester down!

3. Making plans with friends from your hometown that you haven't seen for awhile

Some of your friend group might've gone different ways for college, but on winter break you can all be home together. It's like the "good ole days" and you can make time to hangout and catch up on each others' lives.

4. When you're still waiting for your final grades to be posted

You've been asked several times what your grades are at the end of the semester. You've checked your classes and nothing has been put in since you've left. It's starting to make you doubt how you did. You know there is nothing you can do besides praying for the best.

5. Your mom reminding you of the adult responsibilities you have while you're home

There are dentist appointments, doctor appointments, and all these mandatory obligations that you need to squeeze in before you leave again. You are also reminded of chores, house rules, and your "adult responsibilities". It can get annoying quick, but it wouldn't be home without being badgered at least once.

6. Doing all the things in your hometown you missed while away

You can't wait to go to the restaurants you've missed with the foods you've been consistently craving for weeks. You hit up the old hangout spots and enjoy all the places you've not been able to go to since you left.

7. When the tuition bill for next semester hits

While you're minding your business and enjoying your relaxation on break, the dreaded email or envelope comes in the mail reminding you of tuition for next semester. It hits like a snowball. Thank you for that sweet reminder.

8. Still waking up on Christmas morning with excitement to open presents

I don't care who you are -- if you love Christmas, then you love the feeling of waking up in the morning and running downstairs to open presents. It doesn't matter the age; it is exciting and there is no better feeling than being able to give and bring joy to others.

9. Heading back to school after break ready to do it all over again

You start to miss your friends and you're ready to go back to school. Another adventure awaits us and we can't wait to do it all over again.

Winter break will soon be over and the next semester of college will be upon us. Bring on the stress, the late nights, the new schedule and the new memories that will be in the future. Sometimes it can be tough adjusting back at home after being away, but we love it regardless. Winter break, we will definitely miss you. College, we're back.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
