I'm a Disney fanatic. I love everything Disney, always have and always will. There are so many different movies that it's easy to find something you are in the mood for. I feel that so many Disney Movies are underrated though. People kind of just gloss over them and only think of the huge movies when they think of Disney. Here's a list of Disney movies that I feel are underrated that everyone should at least see once.
1. Atlantis
Atlantis is great. It follows a young man named Milo, who is recruited to help a team find the lost city of Atlantis through his grandfather's research. I love things that follow old tales. Disney creation of the lost city of Atlantis is beautiful. Kida, the princess of Atlantis, is one of my favorite Disney characters. Personally, I think she should be an official Disney Princess, but that's an argument for another day.
2. Meet the Robinsons
This movie has always had a soft place in my heart. It follows an orphan named Lewis, who is a young inventor. He's always wanted to have his own family. He ends up getting to travel to future when he meets a boy from the future named Wilbur. This movie is an adventure. It's funny and heartwarming. It centers on moving forward and family. Also, as a child, I may have had a crush on Wilbur.
3.Emperor's New Groove
If you haven't seen this movie, shame on you. Emperor's New Groove should be considered a classic. I mean it's about a selfish emperor who gets turned into a llama. What beats that really? It's full of humor. I recommend watching it when you need a good laugh.
4. The Hunchback of Notre Dame
This movie pulls on the heartstrings. It's about Quasimodo, who is a deformed man. He's been stuck in a cathedral by an abusive judge. It's a beautiful story about being different and wanting to be accepted by society. Judge Claude Frollo is an epic villain. He's wicked, evil, and creepy. The soundtrack is great.
5. The Fox and The Hound
This movie is just a rollercoaster of emotion. It follows a fox and hound, who are neighbors, that form an unlikely friendship. It starts with the two being very young but follows them as they grow up. They are meant to be enemies, so it's kind of nail-biting as you watch them grow up because I was terrified of what was going to happen.
6. Oliver and Company
Everything about this movie is great. I love the characters and the music. The story is great. It follows an orange kitten named Oliver, who was the only one of his siblings not adopted. He ends up being taken in by a group of dogs that watch out for him.
7. Aristocats
Aristocats was a movie I wanted to watch all the time as a child. It follows a mother cat and her three kittens. They are abandoned out in the country by their butler after he finds out that their owner was going to leave all her money to her cats. They meet an alley cat named Tom, who helps them to get back to their home.
8. Brother Bear
Want a good soundtrack and a great story? Brother Bear is for you. The story follows Kenai, who loses a brother because of a bear. After hunting down a bear for revenge, he woke up as a bear. It's a journey of seeing things through the eyes of another creature. Between the moose and Koda, the bear cub Kenai basically gets stuck with, there is some humor. The visuals are amazing. I love the spirits. The messages about the consequences of revenge and understanding others are pretty obvious throughout.
9. Hercules
As a fan of Greek mythology, I am a huge of Hercules. The take on the legend of Hercules is nice and refreshing. Hades is probably one of my favorite Disney villains. He's funny and actually thinks through his plans if only he had better help. Meg is basically my spirit animal. Her sass is great and she's not the typical female character. I can listen to the Muses' songs probably all day. It's pretty grand.
10. Lilo and Stitch
I will say this movie is gaining popularity, but I still think people should take more notice of this movie. Most people know that it follows an "evil" alien who gets adopted by a human girl and her older sister. The whole theme of this movie is Ohana, which means family. Nani and Lilo's sisterhood is very realistic. At the end, the family grows quite a lot. It's a weird family dynamic with Uncle Jumba and Aunt Pleakley, but it shows you don't have to be blood to be family.
