10 Types of People You Meet in Your Freshman Dorm

Freshman year of college means living in a dorm and sharing a room for possibly the first time in your life. This is simultaneously the most exciting and terrifying experience of your life so far. College dorms have a mesh of personalities that make the freshman dorms one of the most interesting places on campus. These are ten of the most common people that you meet in your freshman dorm.

1. The Homesick One

This person wants to go out and meet new people, yet is stricken with homesickness and instead spends their nights talking to their family and counting down the days until break.

2. The Crazy/Alcoholic One

This person was far too sheltered in high school and is taking full advantage of their new-found freedom, using it to get drunk every day and go to every party they can find, leading you to worry about their soon to be alcoholic status.

3. The Overachiever

This person came into college with enough credits to graduate at least a year early and are taking as many classes as possible, making you wonder if they ever sleep.

4. The Over-Committer

This person has a crippling fear of missing out that has them signing up for every club and activity they can find, even though they all occur at the same time.

5. The Stoner

You can spot this person from a mile away with their drug rugs and their ever-present weed aroma.

6. The Soon-To-Be Frat Boy

He’s always talking about how cool the brothers of (insert Greek letters here) are and how they invited him to their house for a party.

7. The One Who Peaked in High School

This person is no longer playing a sport or having a high social status, so they struggle to fit into the new social order in college and are always talking about high school.

8. The Hermit

You have been told that this person exists, but you have yet to find any proof of that.

9. The "Madly" In Love One

This person came into college single and ready to settle down. By the end of the second week of classes, they’re already obsessed with their new significant other and you wonder if you ever see either of them by themselves.

10. The "Friendly" One

This person takes full advantage of being a new face on a campus and loves the hookup culture.

Freshman dorms bring together a wide variety of people who are experiencing life without their parents for the first time. Don't be surprised when you meet all of these people!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
