It is never easy to deal with a breakup. A breakup signifies the loss of someone important to you. You know you are addicted to a television show when the characters' breakups are just as emotionally damaging as they would be if they were happening to you. You invest so much into their relationships that you wonder how it could not work out. These characters become a part of our lives, and we can't help but feel heartbroken when they are hurting. Here are some of the most devastating television breakups ever:
1. Ross and Rachel - "Friends"
Ross and Rachel breaking up is by far one of the worst things to happen throughout "Friends." Once they finally got together after all the complicated interruptions, we thought they would be together forever. While the two were taking a break, Ross slept with someone else, and Rachel would never forgive him.
2. Carrie and Aidan - "Sex and the City"
Although we were happy to see her end up with Mr. Big, it still hurts to think back on everything Carrie and Aidan went through.
3. Cristina and Burke - "Grey's Anatomy"
As closed off as Christina Yang is, we all knew how much she loved Preston Burke. She puts work over everything, but when she finally decides Burke is worth the risk, Burke leaves her at the altar in the season three finale. Her breakdown afterwards made this breakup even harder to watch.
4. Lorelai and Luke -" Gilmore Girls"
We were always rooting for Luke and Lorelai to be together. When they were finally engaged and on the road to happily ever after, everything changed when Luke finds out he has a daughter. Lorelai begs Luke to elope, but he refuses, so she slept with Christopher. All we could do was pray Luke would forgive her in time.
5. Jake and Peyton - "One Tree Hill"
Jake was one of our favorite Tree Hill Ravens. He was an amazing father to Jenny and a great boyfriend to Peyton. With the many obstacles the couple faced, we just hoped they would be happy together. When Jake broke up with Peyton after he heard her sleep talking about her love for Lucas, I think we all cried.
6. Blair and Chuck - "Gossip Girl"
7. Danny and Vicky -"Full House"
As a single father of three young daughters, all we want is for Danny to be happy. After finally falling in love with Vicky after the death of his wife, we think they will live happily ever after. That all changes the day Vicky decides to follow a job as a weather reporter in New York and leaves Danny heartbroken.
8. Cory and Topanga - "Boy Meets World"
Cory and Topanga are one of the greatest couples in the history of television. Although we all know that they get married at the end of "Boy Meets World," it still breaks our hearts to think about when they broke up.
9. Rory and Dean - "Gilmore Girls"
No one can forget about these high school sweethearts. All is well until Rory finds interest in Luke's nephew, Jess. Dean starts to realize she has feelings for someone else, and then comes the breakup...
10. Olivia and Fitz - "Scandal"
This entire show is about the painful love between Olivia and Fitz (or Mr. President). As viewers, we just can't comprehend why they won't just flee the White House and be together.
