10 Thoughts You Have When Giving Up Something For Lent

The Lenten season is upon us. It is 40 days where Christians around the world focus on prayer, simple living, and fasting. A common thing for many Christians to do this time of year is to give of something that they might have a guilty pleasure for. When you are giving up for guilty pleasure, here are some thoughts you will probably have!

1. "Saying Goodbye is never easy."

Before the Lenten season begins you must say goodbye to something you love for the next 40 days. What better way to do that then to have it the night before! Whether it is your last late night Taco Bell run or saying goodbye to a social media platform by posting a long goodbye status, you have to get it all out of you system before Lent begins.

2. "I miss meat so much!"

Even though you only have to give up meat every Friday, Friday is a whole 24 hours apart from all your favorite meats. Sometimes 24 hours can feel like a lifetime!

3. "It is 2 weeks in and I'm already weak."

You are 14 days done with your 40 days of fasting. It seems like it has been forever but you still have a long way to go. This is the time when you begin to feel weak, and almost give up.

4. "Why must all the things I give up for Lent be right in front of me?!"

Your friends don't realize how tempting it is when they put all the things that you gave up for lent right in front of your face. You are so tempted to give in but you realize that Easter will soon be here!

5. Accidentally taking a bite of meat on a Friday.

You were bound to do it sometime. You didn't remember what day it was and you accidentally went and got meat on a Friday. One bite in and you realize what you have done.

6. "I need you back in my life"

You can't help but miss what you can't have. Simple as that.

7. "I can do anything!"

You are so proud of yourself. You never thought you could do it but you haven't given up and know that the reward will be so worth it!

8. "I'm glad I can keep a Lenten promise better than a New Years Resolution."

Because lets be honest, Lent is just another time to try your New Years Resolution.

9. Finally Lent is over and you are reunited with your favorite things!

The Lenten season is over. You can finally be reunited with all of those things that you gave up! And let me just say, reunited has never felt so good.

10. "I'm so glad I kept my Lenten promise!"

It was't so hard now was it?! Time to start thinking about what you are going to give up next year!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
