10 Thoughts A Philly Girl Has While Living In New York
Arun Sundar

New York might be relatively close to Philly, but it is a completely different world. Here are 10 things that all Philly natives think while in New York.

1. Get that Giants/Mets shirt away from me!

If you try to tell me that your sports teams are better than Philadelphia’s, I will try to calmly walk away. I am an Eagles fan and nothing can stop my love for the Phillies. I’m a Phan till I die.

2. This is not a cheesesteak.

Your cheese is disgusting and what is that bread? Did you find a loaf just sitting on the side of the road? It is a PHILLY cheesesteak! For goodness sake we have a Cheesesteak Festival!

3. What the heck is "on line"?

No, I am not on line I am IN line. Online is being on the Internet. Please get it right.

4. You are making fun of my accent? Have you heard yourself talk?

Every place has an accent. So what if I say "wooder ice." You say weird things too (see number three). So you can’t say anything.

5. You have tall buildings. Congrats. I would like to introduce you to the reason for your freedom.

Two words: Independence Mall. Philly is the birthplace of America. Where the Declaration of Independence was signed. I think that is a bigger deal than your Empire State Building.

6. So you are telling me I can’t run up the Met steps?

This is no fun. Where is the “Eye of the Tiger” music? Why aren’t people following me around? You are going to actually see the art? Bye.

7. The Hudson River is pretty yes, but have you seen Boathouse Row?!

The Schuylkill (pronounced: SKOO-kul) River is beautiful. In the warmer months you can see people rowing up and down it’s 540 miles. The scenery is beautiful with the most breath taking view of the skyline.

8. Another thing about sports: your mascots are sad.

The Phillie Phanatic has been named the number one mascot. He is crazy. You literally do not know what the heck he is and he will do anything. Like sky dive, zip line, or shoot things out of a cannon. You have a walking baseball.

9. Why can’t I walk anywhere?

Like New York, Philadelphia is a big city. This difference is when we want to walk or drive somewhere, we can actually do it. Between slow tourists and New Yorkers who think they are better than everyone, getting from point A to point B can be a pain.

10. Why do New Yorkers think they are better?

OK, so yes a lot of movies are set here and you have a ton of famous people, but that doesn’t matter. We have movies ("Rocky") we have famous people (Will Smith). Philadelphians have as much passion and love for our city as New Yorkers do and you don’t see us rubbing it in your faces, now do you? Take some notes, boys.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
