Commuters feel awkward when they have to hear everyone get super excited during the weeks leading up to finals. Our friends are packing the dorms or suites, buying plane tickets, and cant stop talking about going home to see their friends, family, and pets. I admit, I was once this person. But this semester I am a commuter, and we have very different reactions to winter break from the regular college student. Here are thoughts that go through a commuter student’s head before the holiday break.

1.) “I’m excited for finals to be over, but not because I'm going back home. I go home every night. I’m excited because finals are over.”

2.) “Since I wont be spending an hour driving to and back from school for a few weeks, what will I do with that extra time?”

3.) “Look at all this traffic, good thing I’m not headed to class.”

4.) “Wow, this parking lot is packed with cars and there are literally no spaces. Reminds me of the parking lot at school.”

5.) “It feels better watching Netflix in my room when I know I don't have assignments to do for class.”

6.) “Oh, your dog gave you a really cute welcome when you got home from school? That’s nice, mine does that every night.”

7.) “You missed your mom’s home cooked meals? Can’t relate, thank God, I haven't eaten microwave mac and cheese in over a year.”

8.) “What’s on my Christmas list, you ask. Three words: gas gift cards.”

9.) “Hey, I haven't heard this song in a while. It’s on my ‘driving to school’ playlist. Turn it up!”

10.) “Even though I have almost a month off from school, the spring semester will be here before i know it, and the commute will have to begin again.”

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
