10 Thoughts During Finals Week

If you're a student, there's a good chance that you've shared these feelings.

Finals week is in full swing on the USM campus, and students are cramming, crying, and depriving themselves of sleep. If you're like me, you've had some of these thoughts during finals week.

1. We never went over this in class.

You're sitting in the library looking over the exam review and wondering when the heck the professor went over this material. So now, you have to basically teach yourself a whole section of the course.

2. I need more coffee

.

No food, coffee only. Coffee as a meal replacement, coffee as a water replacement, coffee all the time. During finals, students basically have an IV of the stuff

3. Welp, looks like I'm not going to get to sleep tonight.

Pulling all-nighters is far from healthy, but when you stay up till 4:00am and your exam starts at eight, there's really not a point in sleeping.

4. Back to the library I go!

Even though you've been in the library probably three times the whole semester, you basically live there during finals. Get comfortable.

5. Do I really need this degree?

The answer is always yes. Yet, with all of this in mind, every student finds themselves at this point. The stress and sleep deprivation start to get to you, and you feel like you're dying.

6. I'm eating comfort food all week. I deserve it.

I've seen people eating icing out of the tub with a spoon in the middle of the library. This is totally normal behavior during finals, so no one is really surprised. Treat yo'self.

7. I've studied for an hour, I deserve a 30 minute Youtube/Netflix break

.

This can be a good way to reward yourself after a hard study session, but be lucky that the 30 minute break doesn't turn into an all-night break.

8. If my professor really loves us, he won't make this exam hard.

Your professor doesn't care if you studied or not. Spoiler alert, the exam will probably be challenging, so study accordingly.

9. Can people tell that I haven't showered?

When your number one priority is studying and your second priority is sleeping, showering gets pushed to the back-burner. Just drown yourself in cologne or perfume and go own that exam!

10. Wow, that exam wasn't actually all that bad.

Finals are hard, but you can do it. Use that relief as motivation to get you through the week. You've made it through finals before, and you'll do it again.

Good luck on your finals, students! You have all the skills to succeed!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
