Just like any other term, winter term is a fresh start to college. One can improve one's study habits and or make some lifestyle changes. However, winter term can get lonely, cold, and depressing. Just imagine being stuck in your dorm because it is below freezing outside and doing calculus! No more tank tops and sunglasses, it's time to get out the puffer jackets and beanies.

Here are the 10 thoughts college students have during winter term.

1. This term I will not procrastinate

A new term means a fresh start. Many students hope to change their study habits and be more productive with their use of time. Students will set very high standards for themselves and that will eventually wane towards the end of the term.

2. Is it spring break yet?

There will always be those students that cannot wait until their spring break in Cabo or somewhere tropical and hot. They will constantly be counting down the days until their tropical vacation.

3. I should have brought warmer clothing

Some students will underestimate how cold it can get during winter term and will not bring appropriate clothing. Those students will eventually have to buy new winter coats and hats to survive the frosty and cold mornings.

4. I really don't want to tell people about my winter break

When it is the first week of winter term, professors will usually ask students about their winter break. It can be awkward to talk about ones break because if one did nothing, one will seem boring, and if one went on a trip of a lifetime, one will not want to seem like one is bragging too much.

5. Back to being sick again

When on a college campus, one is prone to getting the flu or something of that sort. Coming back to school means potentially, coming back to having a running nose. Emergen-C and cough medicine are a must to battling those viruses.

6. It's too cold to do anything

Many students will say this as an excuse to do nothing. They will blame the weather for their slugginess and laziness. They would rather sleep-in then go hit the gym or the library.

7. Where is my cuddle buddy?

Cold weather equals cuddle season! Some students will feel rather cold and lonely during winter term. Having someone to cuddle with will change their frown upside down.

8. If it snows, does it mean schools canceled?

Depending on where one lives, it could snow. Many students will yearn for an email that says the class is canceled. Even though assignments would still most likely be due, not having to show up to class can be a plus.

9. I'll take math next term

Unless one really likes math, math can be a hard subject for many students. Some people postpone taking a math class until they actually have no choice.

10. Why don't I have any classes with anyone I know?

During fall term, students make new friends and become familiar with their classmates. When students enter winter term, they might not have classes with old classmates. During winter term, making new friends, while keeping old, is sort of the norm.

Of course, winter term is also full of fun and exciting things to do. One can have snowball fights--if it snows. One can have a movie night with hot chocolate and scones. Or, one can simply enjoy the fresh air, winter does have. In the meantime, enjoy every moment of life, even if it is winter term.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
