10 Things You Will Undoubtably Need On Move-In Day

Number 7 being the most important...

College move-in day is a strange day. It could either be the most exciting day, or the most dreaded day, or maybe a mix of both. It's super stressful and chaotic and it's like "wow did I remember to pack this" or "holy shit I over packed." I really don't think you can 'win' on move-in day. There's a lot you will not need on move in day, but here's a list of things you will...

1. Command Strips

These are gods gift to college students who aren't allowed to make marks on their wall. Spoiler alert: pull them off at the end of the school year and they'll still leave massive marks on the wall! It's a lose-lose if I'm being honest.

2. Plastic bins

Bins will make everything WAY easier! Girls, it's perfect to fit all the clothes you can, or shoes. Boys, it could probably fit two thirty racks, maybe three if you try hard enough. But seriously get some plastic bins to save yourself some trouble...and some trips from the car to the dorm.

3. Your family

Even as I go into my second year of school, I couldn't picture doing this without my mom and dad with me. Make sure you get some people to help you, and if not your family, then your friends! Makes everything that much easier.

4. Comfy clothes

Move-in day is not about looking good. If you pull up to campus with a full face of makeup, perfectly done hair, and a rockin' outfit...I might be a little envious but I'll say "wow sucks for you" because you're gonna get hot and sweaty and gross. Who doesn't look like trash on move-in day? cmon.

5. Tape

Command strips only go so far. Bring the tape too. It makes life a million times easier, you can hang all your pics up and whatever other room decor you got!

6. Your phone

This shouldn't be your main focus but let's be real, your friends from back home will / should be blowing up your phone asking about the people on your floor, what your room looks like, etc.. Keep it handy. It's nice to take a few five-minute breaks to regain your sanity.

7. A bottle of... something (sorry mom)

Well, it may be the first rule you break at school but it certainly won't be the last. This is stressful and chaotic...treat yourself right after.

8. A speaker

The only thing worse than moving into your new dorm room that probably doesn't have AC is moving in with the noise of everyone. Bring that speaker and blast that music. It'll make it fun and I'm sure it will get a few people to pop their head in, maybe you'll even make a few friends.

9. Food

You don't know if your dining hall is going to be open and available to you so don't chance it, bring some food. You can't be moving all that crap around on an empty stomach.

10. Your sanity

Trust me when I say... stay calm and sane. Move in day can seem terrible if you're like me, but get a good nights rest and keep reminding yourself that Friday night is right around the corner.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
