10 Things I Would Never Do Again

But have, unfortunately, done before.

10 Things I Would Never Do Again

In my life, there have been plenty of mishaps, wrong turns, and ill-advised endeavors. Luckily, I've learned from my mistakes (most of them), and would never, ever do them again. In the effort to help others learn from my mistakes as well, here are ten things I can't see myself doing a second time.

1. Put deodorant on my inner thighs and hope that makes them chafe less.

2. See a bug in my immediate area and not kill it when I have the chance. (That’s right. I was kind. I let the damn bugger live and it flew into my hair.)

3. Wear a jacket (even though it’s 90 degrees outside) because I’m wearing a tank-top and I don’t want anyone to see my bra strap. (← Yet another reason why I resent sexist high-school dress codes that condition girls to hide their bra straps or risk punishment).

4. Dumb myself down when I’m being mansplained to, so that his ego isn’t bruised. (Why do men feel the need to educate me about things I already know?)

5. Finish a book I don’t enjoy reading. (Starting now. I’ve been doing this with school-assigned books for years, why not start with personal books as well? *shrugs*).

6. Speed up while driving because I can tell the person behind me is getting impatient with my speed. (Don’t do this. They can go around. Move at the speed you’re comfortable with).

7. Buy clothes because they’re “in style” or because everyone else is wearing them. (Below, you'll find a picture of the dirty overalls I prefer to wear).

8. The Pacer Test. (“The FitnessGram™ Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The 20 meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start…”)

9. Lie about my weight at the DMV.

10. Give up on a dream because of some ill-conceived notion that I don’t have what it takes to achieve it. (I do.)

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
