If you have an outgoing personality and love striking up conversations with strangers, a customer service job is perfect for you. You get to meet new people, some of whom you'll find are very interesting individuals with awesome stories to tell. All the while you can crack jokes with your coworkers during slow times.
However, customer services jobs can also prove difficult and no easy task. The work required of you grows tiring and the customers can at times be incredibly rude, impatient and demanding. So, if you've ever worked a customer service job, particularly one in the food industry, then you have probably experienced one of these situations at one point in time. And if you ever want to upset a food worker, try any of these things (but please don't).
1. Enter the restaurant a few minutes before closing...
I'm going to start this article with a bang and list the number one thing that probably upsets any customer service worker, anywhere, the most, and that is coming in right before closing. Chances are, we are all eager to go home and have begun closing the store already. Please don't do this. We would very much like to go home.
2. ...And order for here...
It's worse enough that you decided to come into the restaurant right before closing, but now you're going to eat here and delay our ability to go home even further?! Please just take it to go.
3. ...And not leave a tip.
If you're going to push back the time we can leave the restaurant, it's only fair that you show your gratitude.
4. Take forever to order something during a rush.
I understand this is your first time here and you have some questions, but there is a line out the door so if you could please make up your mind so we can prepare your food and assist the rest of the hungry, impatient customers, I would greatly appreciate that.
5. Complain about the prices/menu.
I don’t own the restaurant and I didn’t set the prices. Here’s my manager’s contact information. Feel free to release all your frustrations on him, but please stop venting to me.
6. Compare another restaurant to ours (And let us know that they do something better at the compared restaurant).
Again, I don’t manage the restaurant.
7. Make a mess...
I understand it's bound to get a little messy, but did you really have to leave dirty napkins and food all over the table?
8. ...And not leave a tip.
So, as you can tell by now, tips are greatly appreciated. If you're going to make us work even harder, please reward us. That is all.
9. Leave the door open upon entering or exiting the establishment.
Every time you do this, I have to walk around the counter to close the door. Please, it takes 2 seconds to close it.
10. Be a picky eater.
So no onions on this, no that. I'm sorry if I mess up your order- just know you brought this on yourself.
