Once November rolls around, I don’t know about you, but I start the countdown to Thanksgiving. Why do I start this countdown? Because Thanksgiving means food, family, and most importantly, the day after Thanksgiving it is socially acceptable to start listening to Christmas music! Here is a list of reasons why you should be excited for the kickoff to the holiday season:

1. Pumpkin, and then peppermint everything

As soon as November rolls around, Pumpkin seems to be the flavor of everything. Pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin muffins, and pumpkin cookies. The trend has even spread to unconventional items such as toothpaste. And once December approaches, the pumpkin slowly transforms into peppermint.

2. Candles

From pine tree to cinnamon bun and apple to vanilla, scented candles are the best around the holidays.

3. Cookie decorating

Decorating sugar cookies is a December necessity. Decorate some cookies while listening to your favorite Christmas carol!

4. Lights, lights, and more lights

Take some time to appreciate the tacky, elaborate, and extravagant lights, because they only come around once a year. Give in to the decor and light up your neighborhood.

5. Elf

If you haven’t watched Elf at least 3 times in the month of December, you have not had a successful holiday season. Elf is always a crowd pleaser and mood booster, especially when you are looking to get in the holiday spirit! So sit back, grab the world’s best cup of hot chocolate (or coffee as Buddy would say), and enjoy some quality cinematography.

6. Family time

During the holidays you spend long amounts of time with your family. This means you argue with your siblings a little extra, but you are making memories that will last longer than the scratch your sister gave you. Appreciate this time with your family and use it as a time to laugh, tell stories, and bond.

7. 25 Days of Christmas on ABC Family

These 25 days are the best consecutive 25 days of the year. Settle down with your friends and family and prepare yourself for the longest and best movie marathon.

8. Opening presents

Of course, everybody loves opening up a present around the holidays. But the best is watching someone open a present you gave them, and seeing the joy on their face.

9. Christmas music

Anyone who celebrates Christmas undoubtedly owns or has listened to Michael Buble’s Christmas album. From his rendition of “White Christmas” to his cover of “Winter Wonderland”, Buble will get you in the holiday mood.

10. The holiday spirit

The holidays bring out the spirit in all of us, so go out and spread the holiday cheer this year!

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
