Finding a romantic partner in life can be very difficult. They could be too lazy, too rude, or even too clingy. It is easy to just feel lost and not know what to look for. However, I’ve done some research out in the dating field and I have noticed a few common traits that add up to an ideal companion, and luckily for you, I’ve compiled a short list of the ten most important things to look for in a partner:
1. Someone who makes you laugh
If you plan on spending a lot of time with them, you’ll want to be able to joke around with them and laugh.
2. Someone who will take care of you
Your partner should be someone who takes care of you. They will bring you soup when you are sick and even cuddle with you (because they love you so much, they aren’t afraid of your germs)!
3. Someone who makes you feel like royalty:
This person should make you feel like the most special person in the world. Now, I’m not saying they should be some pushover that hurries to your every beckoned call, but you should look for someone that makes you a priority.
4. Someone who encourages you
Look for someone who builds you up rather than constantly breaking you down. Who would want to spend the rest of their lives with someone who never encourages you to do what you love?
5. Someone who listens to you
Your partner should pay attention to you when you speak and actively listen. They will allow you time to speak and won’t ramble on and not let you get a word in. This means they care about you; they want to hear what you have to say.
6. Someone who remembers things
Whether this means remembering facts about you or dates, they will do their best to remember it all. Even if they have to keep a calendar, your significant other should at least make an effort when it comes to remembering things.
7. Someone who appreciates your interests
While you and your companion will have some similar likes, I can guarantee that there will be likes that you don’t share. But your partner should be someone who, even though they may not love Maroon 5, will at least try to appreciate Adam Levine’s beautiful voice and undeniable talent.
8. Someone who takes 'no' for an answer
Like, there’s not really much to say for this. If they don’t understand ‘no,’ then kick them to the curb.
9. Someone who is passionate
What I mean by passionate, is that this someone should have interests and goals and dreams. They should have something that they love so much that they can ramble on about it for hours (not just you, like an actual interest). Their thing could be sports, or politics, or shoes; as long as there is something. A person without passions is a person without substance.
10. Someone who loves you
Last but not least, you should date someone who loves you unconditionally. All of the things above are great, but they’re made better by love.
Most importantly, remember that relationships go both ways.
