The Mom Friend: Every friend group has one - ya know, the sometimes overly-protective friend who tends to sound a lot like your mother? Yes, sometimes they can get naggy, like real moms do, but let's face it...you can't live without us. If you're someone like me, then you are the mom friend. Here's a list of 10 things that happen when you're the mom friend:

1. You refer to your friends as your children.

And you're a proud mom, too. You support them at their sporting events, you help them with laundry, give them the last of your food and water, and you've probably cleaned their wounds. Everyone is also well aware of who your sons/daughters are, and that's most likely because you frequently say things like "Oh! That's my son!"

2. You're always telling your friends to drink responsibly.

While you're probably drinking with them, you're still reminding them of what your dorm's alcohol policy and limit is, stopping them from doing another shot before they vomit, telling them that they shouldn't go lay down unattended, and you're warning them about binge drinking. Know your limits, people.

3. Speaking of drinking, you're probably also the designated care-taker when you go out.

This one goes without saying or asking. Even if you're not the DD (which you should always have one), you're still keeping an eye out for all of your friends, and anyone else you know that you ran into while out. You probably won't even let yourself drink, just in case something goes wrong with your DD. Besides, someone has to stop your friend from going home with that really obnoxious kid that's had way too much to drink, has creepely hit on everyone in sight, and roughly resembles a big toe.

4. You are prepared for nearly every situation.

Even the strange ones. Whether someone needs snacks, band-aids, hand sanitizer, scissors, rubbing alcohol, window cleaner, a nail clipper, napkins, tissues, a laundry steamer, you name it, we probably have it. As soon as it's asked for, you've got it ready.

5. You naturally want to clean any dirty space you encounter.

It may be your room, your friend's room, some random apartment you're in for a party, but wherever it is, if it's a mess, you have the urge to clean it. The ridiculous part is that you probably enjoy cleaning it too, no matter how gross it is. Weird, I know.

6. You always want to make sure everyone is safe.

Frequent lines out of your mouth include, but are not limited to, "Make good choices," "Be safe," "Text me when you get there," "Don't text and drive," and "Let me know if you need anything." Safety is most important!

7. "Family" dinner is a real thing.

Sometimes, there are a few hiccups (like when the oven overheats and sets your cookies on fire and thus sets the fire alarm off during a rain storm), but "family" dinner is always filled with laughs and delicious food made by yours truly, the mom friend.

8. It's always weird when you get to stop being mom for a night.

It actually feels unnatural, but you love every minute of it! Is this what parenting is like?

9. You're good at conflict resolution.

From friend and family issues, to boy problems, you've got advice for just about everything.

10. "Thanks mom" is a common thing you hear.

Sometimes it's sarcastic, sometimes it's genuine, but "thanks mom" is something you probably hear all the time...and you love it. You happily accept your position as the mom of the friend group, and you wouldn't trade it for the world.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
