Only a few minutes into your next holiday party, and you realize there are approximately two things you can eat from the long sprawl of holiday goodies. Vegans know the struggle of finding food at any restaurant or event, but the holidays are a whole other ball game. From the cheese platter appetizer to the Christmas ham main course, you have very limited options, and your stomach is growling from the second you arrive. Besides the food, vegans have a few other things to deal with during the season of forced family gatherings and awkward conversation [you've heard the questions before] --
1. You thrive off the fruit platter.
The one part of any holiday meal that is left completely to you: the fruit platter. The strawberries may be soggy and the blueberries squished, but it's the only option you have.
2. You answer the same question a million times.
"So, what are you going to eat?" Ah, the famous question of the hour. Everyone is worried about what you'll eat during the holidays, and you just want to have a good time. Usually, the answer is, "I'll figure it out," and then you veg off peanuts and crackers for the rest of the night.
3. You become a chef.
To solve your hungry troubles, you start searching through Pinterest for the perfect, but incredibly easy, vegan dishes to make. After hours of baking and cooking, you realize it was probably best to buy a Tofurkey loaf and toss it in the oven.
4. You live in Whole Foods.
Home for three weeks on holiday break? You head to your local organic food store and stock up on the vegan essentials. Your cart is full of almond milk, vegan mac n' cheese and dairy-free Ben and Jerry's -- what more could you need?
5. You encourage your family to eat their vegetables.
You're chomping on a whole platter of rice, veggies, and tofu goodness. You just want your family to love it as much as you do, so you sneak some hearty greens onto their plate. Hopefully, they won't notice?
6. You watch health documentaries.
What else will you do with hours and hours of free time? In addition to your typical Netflix show, you binge-watch the latest vegan health documentaries and thrive in your vegan vibes. You practically force your siblings and family pet to watch them with you.
7. You add eco-friendly items to your gift list.
Your friends and family never know what to get you, so you gladly put together a lengthy list of animal and earth-friendly products they can gain inspiration from. On the top of the list is a shirt that says, "Eat Fruit, Not Friends," and 20 vegan-themed stickers from Redbubble.
8. You bake. A lot.
From chocolate cake to cookie dough, you vegan-ize everything in sight. The kitchen becomes your newfound territory, and your family practically begs for tastes of your creations [just don't tell them it's vegan].
9. You spread the plant love with everyone in sight.
Okay, you may annoy your family and friends about your lifestyle and the perks of being vegan, but they still love you no matter what. What's so wrong about being passionate?
10. You celebrate just the same.
At the end of the day, only a few minor formalities change during the holiday season. You still love spreading Christmas cheer and singing holiday carols with your loved ones. Happy holidays, vegans!
