Growing up with a Jamaican mother, it was very different from my American friends. Instead of the usual sweet potatoes, candied yams and collard greens, I'd have stew chicken, oxtails, and macaroni pie. Although very different in nature and culture, eating dinner and enjoying the company of family for the holidays is always nothing but great vibes and good fun. But sometimes, being with family can sometimes get a little crazy. With that being said, here are some of the things that remind me of a Caribbean thanksgiving, with a little help from the Twitter hashtag, #ThanksgivingWithCaribbeanFamilies
1. You Never Know Sometimes, But If Anything, Just Open The Bottle And Smell It (while not getting accused of trying to take a sip)
2. It's Not Thanksgiving (or any holiday) Until You Hear An Argument About Dominoes
3. When They Say EVERYONE Is Coming, They Mean It. Bonus If Family You Never See Stops By For A Nice Hot Plate Of Food
4. You Can Either Keep Quiet And Hope She Doesn't Notice, Or Take The Cup And Casually Leave The Room *excuses self from the area*
5. ESPECIALLY If You Grew Up In A Jamaican Household. No Matter How Much Or How Little Is Used, It's In There
6. No More Sorrel? Oh No! *as you walk away slightly drunk*
7. You Might Cause A Petty Argument, Hurting Feelings, Or Both
8. You Know Someone Who Is This Petty. That Person Might Even Be You, And That's Okay
9. In Most Caribbean Families, The Use Of Turkey Is Non-Existent
10. Finally, If Made Properly You Won't Taste The Rum & It'll Slowly Creep Up On You
