10 Things To Do In the Texas Summer

Finals are either here or approaching for most. That means summer is here and so is the fun. Whether you are coming home to Texas for the summer, staying in Texas, or visiting Texas, there are plenty of things to do. The great state of Texas has a lot of everything from big cities to small towns, and beaches to plains. You will never run out of things to do this summer. Here's a small look into popular Texan things to do this summer:

1. Visit the River Walk in San Antonio.

One huge destination at any point in the year in Texas is the River Walk. The River Walk always has something going on, and it is such a beautiful place. There is no shortage of places to eat, shop, relax, or just take in the sights.

2. See the State Capitol in Austin.

I may be a little biased, but the Texas State Capitol building and grounds are the most beautiful in the nation. The granite building stands out on the Austin skyline and really makes an impression on everyone who visits. There is plenty to see in and around the Capitol. Whatever you do, do not miss the dome.

3. Travel to Big Bend State Park.

Though Big Bend is a far trip for many people, it is worth every mile. The breathtaking views are amazing and you cannot find them anywhere else. There are also plenty of things to do in Big Bend. You can go on a hike, backpack, take in the wildlife, learn the history of the land, and more. Big Bend is amazing and everyone should see it before they die.

4. Climb Enchanted Rock close to Fredericksburg.

Enchanted Rock may only offer one thing to do (climb the rock), but don't count out just how fun that can be. The climb is worth it. The views from the top are amazing. After you climb down, go check out Fredericksburg. This small town has a great feel and plenty of things to see.

5. Hit the beach in South Padre.

South Padre is the best place to go to the beach in Texas. This being said, South Padre doesn't compare to other beach destinations in the nation. South Padre can be somewhat gross at points, but don't let this prevent you from enjoying a Texas beach.

6. Tube the Guadalupe.

The Guadalupe is the premier place for all Texas summers. All you need is a river tube and some friends. It may seem really dumb from the outside looking in, but it is such a great way to beat the heat. The thrills on the river never end. I'm sure that on the way down you can find a rope swing to stop for an hour or two.

7. Attend Six Flags.

There are two options for this one. There is a Six Flags in San Antonio and one in Arlington. Whichever one you go to, you will enjoy it. There are plenty of thrills to go around and that's why Six Flags is a great place to spend a whole day.

8. Graffiti the Cadillac's at Cadillac Ranch.

Cadillac Ranch is one of the things on many people's “Texas check-list." Making your mark on one of the many buried Cadillac's is so much fun. Though the Cadillac's are way out in Amarillo, you can make a lot out of a trip to the panhandle after you spray paint a car.

9. Enjoy a Rangers or Astros game.

The saying, "everything is bigger in Texas," definitely applies to sporting events. It especially applies to baseball. The Rangers and Astros are both great baseball teams with great stadiums that everyone should watch a game in. Other than the Major League games, there are plenty of Minor League teams throughout Texas that make for great baseball as well.

10. Go see “Texas" in Palo Duro Canyon.

The outdoor musical named "Texas" will be showing n Palo Duro Canyon (in the panhandle) starting June 2 through August 15. This musical shows everything that's great about Texas. I believe that it is another one of those things that all people should see before they die. Also, it is the 50th year of the musical, so be on the lookout for special things this year.

These are all great things to do in Texas this summer. However, this isn't a definitive list of what you should do. There are many more things to do and see. Whatever you choose to do, Texas won't disappoint.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
