10 Things I Realized When I Turned 19

People suck, and cats rule, what more can I say?

1. Some Friends are not Forever

You said we would always be friends and never leave each other's sides. You said I meant the world to you and I would always be your best friend. You lied, but that is okay because I am doing just fine. Friends are not always forever, but I realized that those friends who are forever sometimes come later in life, and those who are true will prove that they want to stay for the good times and the bad.

2. Family is Forever

Friends come and go, but family stays, no matter what. My family is the most important part of my life, and I could not go on without them. They love me when I can not love myself and they bring out the best in me. I know no matter what life throws at me, my family will be there to catch me when I fall and hug me when I am sad and celebrate along side me when life brings me to victory.

3. My Mom Is Always Right

No matter how many times I refuse to listen to her, she is always right. She proves to me every time that she does understand, most times even more than I do. When she says I should try something on even if I do not like the way it looks on the hangar, because it will look different on, she is absolutely right, even though I put up a fight and roll my eyes as if she has no idea what she is talking about. But she does, she always does.

4. People Suck, and Cats Rule

People suck sometimes. They do not understand that other people matter besides themselves, and the world does not spin because of their existence. People are insensitive and unnecessarily cruel. But cats, they are the best. They just get me. Cats do not judge me for who I am, cats except me and my unique lifestyle. Cats love to take naps, and I love to take naps, so like I said, cats rule and people suck, there is nothing more to it.

5. I do not need a Dad, I have a Mom

My mom is my best friend, and always will be. She is both of my parents combined, and I would not want it any other way. She works unbelievably hard to keep a roof over our heads and provide for us and I am so lucky to have her. She may be my biggest enemy at times, but she is also my biggest fan and system of support and love and she makes my life worth living. Screw having a father, I have a mom, the best one out there in fact.

6. There is Nothing Wrong With Staying in on the Weekends

Yes, I am in college. No, I do not go to parties. But that does not make me weird or immature. It is not my scene, and I do not care what anyone has to say about it. Do not get me wrong, I do not judge anyone who goes to parties on the weekend, or drinks for fun, you do you, but it just is not for me.

7. No Matter How Hard You Try, You Will Not Always Succeed

I have studied for hours on end for tests, taken extensive notes, and still received a grade way lower than I wanted. I have put all of my efforts into a project and still been outshined by another classmate. I have gone to class day in and day out, while that one boy in the back just shows up for the exams and still does better than me. Sometimes no matter how hard I try, I do not get the results I want. That does not mean I should give up, that is not who I am. I will keep trying with all of my might until one day I do succeed.

8. There Are Always Going To Be People Who Are Better Than Me

In highschool, I was on the top of my class, and was important to the community of my school and town. Here in college, that all changed. I ran for Vice President of my class, I lost. I applied to be an RA, I was declined. My GPA was not high enough for the Honors Program. There are so many more people here to compete against than I have ever had to prior to college, and it seems unfair. But, life is sometimes unfair, and I just keep telling myself that I will find my nitch and calling here on campus, and I will find something that I am good at. There will always be people who are better than me, but I need to stay true to myself, and keep on keepin’ on, because my time to thrive will come.

9. Time Is Precious, And Tomorrow Is Not Promised

God has taken people from me that were not supposed to leave. People have left on their own. Each day that we are granted we get older and older, and time progresses on. We can never get yesterday back, that is gone, we have to live for today. Time is ticking, and our clocks will eventually one day run out, for whatever reason, there may be. Tomorrow is never promised, so take all of the today’s opportunities for what they are worth and live your life to the absolute fullest, I promise you it is important whether you realize that now or not, there will come a day that you do.

10. I Am Important, I Matter

It is sometimes hard to believe, but I am on this earth for a reason. We are all on this earth for a purpose to live and make a difference, and each day we are granted proves how important our existence is. I have made a lot of mistakes, and wrong decisions, but what is life if we cannot learn from our mistakes? Pointless, that is what it is. My goal in life is to make an impact on those around me, and whenever I get the opportunity to do that, I will and with that, I prove the point once again that my existence is important. I matter, and you do too. Life is tough, and it is not always rainbows and the sunshine, but at the end of the day, we are all doing what we are doing at this exact moment for a reason. We matter, and we are important, in defiance of what anyone says.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
