2019 is here, and we all have an intense desire to live our 'Best Life.' Whether that means impromptu dance breaks, unplanned vacations, or boldness in new situations, we all need to break some barriers this year and be as happy as we possibly can. Nobody wants to look back at regrets- we want to look back at happy memories. So, let's create some in 2019!

1. Make time to do what you love!

Countless essays are due, tens of chapters are supposed to be read, and hundreds of math problems are supposed to be solved. Work is supposed to be completed and in your adviser's mailbox. I'm right there with you. Hard work pays off and I'm all for effort, time, and consistency, but at the end of the day, as humans, if we genuinely want to be our happiest selves, we have to make time do what we love. I always make time to do what I love and I'm the happiest I've been in ages. If I want to go to the gym and release some stress, I'm gonna go. If I want to see my best friend who's ALWAYS busy, I'm going to make the time. Yes, it might cost me an extra half hour at the end of the night but I'm all for it. Always make time to do what makes you happy, even if it makes things a little bit harder on you- It will be worth it in the end.

2. BE BOLD.

Go out on a limb. Nobody wants to live with any regrets! My life changed the moment I decided to gather some courage, confidence, and actually take a couple of risks and tell people my true, honest feelings. The worst feeling is looking back and wishing that you had done something differently. Do what your hearts tell you, and do it at the moment. It will be worthwhile. If nothing else, if something goes wrong, at least you have a funny story to look back on in the future!

3. Leave drama in the past.

Drama? Who is she? That is REALLY my mood right now. I haven't been involved in drama in, like, a year, and these past twelve months have been the best of my life. Drama, especially in high school or college, is the most pointless thing I've ever witnessed in my life. There's no need to talk behind someone's back. Say how you feel. Be honest, be bold, be true, just don't be fake. If you have a problem, communicate about it. Communication works wonders. Why can't we use it more often?! The answer is simple, we can. Let's erase drama in 2019 and be mature. We will be SO much happier.

4. Have a good attitude and a positive outlook!

You can only truly be happy if you actually want to be! Happiness is rooted inside of yourself. You have to be strong- it's a mental thing. If you want to be happy and invest your energy into it, you will become your happiest, best self.

5. Take some risks!

Go to Chick Fil A. Tell that boy how you really feel. Tell your friend what's bothering you. Invite someone new to hang out. Dye your hair. Try a new look. Wear the vans with a sweater. Try out for the team. PLEASE don't stray away from doing something just because you're too afraid, it's too last minute, it's too spontaneous, or you are nervous. Go for it. The best things in life were completely unexpected and came in the form of serendipity.

6. Spend more time with people.

Reconnect with old friends. Make it a regular thing to check in on those you love, miss, or care about. Go to a party if you want to. Start a new job. Make some new friends. You have to take some risks and you have to put yourself out there before you'll find some people you really click with. If you want to be friends with someone, start a conversation with them. Send 'streaks' to the cute boy you have your eyes on. If you love someone, tell them how you feel. People are great and communication with others is essential to happiness as a person. Compliment people. Make people feel how you want to feel. People might want to be friends with you just as much as you want to be friends with them!

7. Get your 'ISH' together!

We love a successful sister. Get your stuff together! Being on the path to your goals feels oh so good. If you want to feel more organized and stress-free, start with a game plan. Let's get those grades up and join a club or two! Let's get employed so we have money to go out with our friends whenever we want to! Let's increase our SAT or ACT scores so we can get into our dream colleges! Hard work pays off. Put effort in and you will reap the benefits.

8. Listen to your favorite music!

Make a new playlist. Listen to songs that boost your mood! Buy an AUX cord for your car! Get some headphones, and stop hitting the 'Skip' button on Spotify, Pandora, or Apple Music because the song you keep skipping could be the theme song of your life.

9. Be productive!

Get all your work turned in when it's due. Study a couple of days before the test. Put some effort and hard work in because in the end, you are the one who's going to benefit from it. Do the extra credit, because not that many teachers offer it! Being lazy is a bad feeling- being productive feels amazing.

10. Become more patient, and try not to complain.

Patience is important. There are so many moments when we become so overwhelmed that we just want to explode. This year, do yourself a favor and take life one moment at a time. Don't freak out at people, even when you're extremely stressed out and can't take one more second of stress. Take time to understand adversity and deal with anxieties. You'll feel a whole lot better after organizing yourself. Patience is the key to happiness, and so is another good point- not complaining. Complaining makes you feel like everything is messed up and doing wrong. If you deal with your mess instead of freaking out over it, you will be a much happier and less stressed out person!

2019 is in full swing. Life does not wait for you to pause. There's no pausing to think- you just have to jump right in to the ocean of life and keep treading the water. Soon, you'll be swimming. You just have to learn to swim through the waves and tread hard when the waves try to sink you down. If you want to start something, you have to go for it without stopping to pause, think, or reconsider. Be safe but don't let fear stop you. Jump right in, that's the only way to get things in motion! Don't let fear stop you this year. Let 2019 be YOUR YEAR!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
