10 Things I Learned From My First-Ever Finals Week

And they have nothing to do with the finals I took.

During my first finals week as a freshman at IU, I noticed a few things that were a little different than high school "finals week."

1. Drinking 10 gallons of coffee this week is normal.

Caffeine is the drug of choice this week.

2. There are literally no seats open in the library.

So you just awkwardly walk around in circles waiting for someone to leave their seat.

3. Studying actually just turns into distracting yourself and all your friends.

Finals week in a meme presented by Jim Halpert: 60 percent procrastinating, 39 percent distracting others, and 1% lethal thoughts.

4. Studying with your floor until 2 a.m. is very therapeutic.

Everyone's complaining about their different finals and draining their laptop batteries to avoid studying and you don't get much done, especially when conversations you have to join come up, but hey you might order some cookies at 1 a.m. that'll make everyone feel better

5. Your days feel extra long.

Especially if you're one of the people who have multiple finals in one day, your stress level never decreases and you just sit there being a mess.

6. Sleep does not happen this week.

when you have to learn a full semester worth of chemistry, psychology or finite in one night, you decide sleep is for the weak, not this week.

7. Everyone who didn't come to lecture all semester suddenly shows up for the final.

and someone you've never seen before takes your seat.

8. Calculating what you need on the final to get an A in the class is a sad experience

especially when you need a 129 percent on your final to get the said A.

9. You forget to work out or eat anything healthy at all

Instead of your usual workout routine and semi-healthy diet, you're eating more pizza than you ever have in your life and forgetting what exercise even is.

10. Finals week is a bonding experience.

Everyone's stressed to the max and going through his terrible week together and that creates a sort-of bond that I've never seen before it's almost like you're saying "Hey, we're besties now because we went through his terrible, horrible thing together."

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
