10 Things You Know To Be True If You Return To Church Camp As A Counselor
Stonegate Youth

Most kids in Texas grow up going to church camps, it's just a part of life when growing up in the Bible Belt. After time spent away at college some campers return as counselors or small group leaders and learn very quickly camp isn't all fun and games... this is for you.

1. You have a phone.

Crazy, I know! You honestly can't believe that you have a phone at camp. But with the joys of knowing you can take pictures are also the constant buzzing of the camp GroupMe blowing up and slowly sucking away your will to even have cell service with every text.

2. Suddenly your dream of 4 kids turns to no kids.

Two words: birth control. Chasing around 12 little 12 year-olds will really make you question if you want kids in the future and just how far into the future you want kids, 30 is a good age right?

3. Curfew is suddenly too late.

Being a camper 11:30 p.m. was sooooo early. But as a small group leader bedtime would be really, really nice if it was at 9:30 p.m.

4. Late Night activities are no longer a blast but super, super stressful.

There are 400 plus small children running around in a dimly lit dance party with what feels like 40 leaders or less all hanging around the outskirts and not watching the children. You're just trying to make sure you don't come back with more kids than you left with....

5. Halfway through the week, your enthusiasm is on autopilot and morning celebration is a blur.

Celebration was once one of your favorite parts of camp but now you honestly can't remember a thing about it other than somehow you lost your voice.

6. You. are. emotional.

Getting 5 hours of sleep, chasing 12-year-olds around for 12 hours, dance parties every night, drama, and losing a girl at least once a day will make you beyond emotional. Throw in some PMS and you have an A+ situation for an end of the week meltdown, just don't let the kids see.

7. Were you this tired as a camper??

giphy.com

Somehow as a camper you got more than enough sleep and had energy every single day. But now all of a sudden as a leader you are barely getting five hours of sleep and you honestly can't remember ever being this tired. Honestly, camp week puts finals week to shame.

8. You are an energy drink addict and protect them with your life.

giphy.com

Your kids lowkey hate you because you won't let them get any energy drinks, but that's a small price to pay and well worth it to not have them literally shaking and running circles around you.

9. When it's free time you are way more excited than you ever were as a camper.

giphy.com

This is simply because free time is equivalent to free of chasing around munchkins for an hour time or as I endearingly refer to it, nap time.

10. Friday is the best day of the week.

giphy.com

FriYAY because it's the last day and while you love love love your kiddos you are also going to love love love your 30-hour nap the moment you are home. And that's a wrap.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
