10 Things INTPs Know All Too Well

As a restless daydreamer, confirmed bibliophile and unrelentingly unemotional, internally overly-emotional, wacky human being, I have often wondered if there is a sort of survival guide out there for myself and fellow INTPs. Never having found one, I have resolved myself to thinking about the things that bind us together as the weirdos of the analytical MBTI spectrum, in between the construction of my detailed plans to take over the world (that I will ultimately be too lazy to execute).

So, if you're an INTP, you are undoubtedly here in the midst of an intense bout of procrastination, bored interest or the throes of a violent, passionate fit to exponentially increase your general knowledge within the span of... oh, I don't know... about 45 minutes. That should triple it.

If you're an INTP, you know how to have fun (by yourself, bundled in front of your laptop with only your cat and a mug of tea to keep you company). You know the things that make you unique, separate you from the illogical masses of the more primitive, touchy-feely personality types (except INTJs, who are actually tolerable, on a good day). You know that right now, there's a subconscious itch in the back of your mind, silently pleading with you to scroll down the page...

Here are 10 things that INTPs excel at doing... possibly even more than procrastination.

1. When you have a detailed plan perfectly worked out in your head, and you watch it all fall to pieces when you attempt to verbalize it.

2. When you mourn the loss of logical thinking in what seems to be all of humanity.

3. When you mispronounce a word and you're like, "But I know exactly what it means!"

4. When you mentally commit to reading only one Wikipedia article per night... but then things just complicate themselves and you're awake until 4 a.m.

5. When you spend a solid twenty minutes painfully constructing a message that it takes the receiver approximately 0.7 seconds to scan and dismiss.

6. When you win all of the many scintillating arguments that go on... in your own head.

7. When you're so wrapped up in your own thoughts that you never hear the person practically screaming in your ear, trying to communicate like a normal human. Or the blaring car horn warning you not to cross the street.

8. When you have a notebook full of scrawled project ideas and ideas for project ideas that you know you will never complete (or even begin...).

9. When you immediately spaz out and start orating the minute a topic within the realm of your interest/knowledge enters into the conversation.

10. When you go to take a personality test, and you can manipulate your outcome by strategically choosing the answers leading to it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
