10 Things I'd Tell My High School Freshman Self

As a Junior in college, I tend to catch myself thinking back to high school. All the friends, memories (good and bad) come to me. I look through old pictures and smile or laugh. They didn't mean much to me back then but now I realize what all the fuss is about. As a freshman, you are just beginning the adventure. You get the feel for high school. People always told me to enjoy high school, you'll miss it when you're gone. Well things change, people change, you change. That's part of growing up. Remembering high school is remembering your prime. You were finding yourself and who you are. However, there are a few things I would tell myself in order to enhance the memories.

1. You don't know everything.

It's okay to be wrong and learn. When parents, siblings, friends tell you something they just might be right.

2. It's okay to be yourself.

You don't have to like everyone and everyone doesn't have to like you. Stop trying to please others and please yourself instead. Don't shut yourself out during social events because you're scared to say something dumb or be ignored.

3. Your mother is pushing you so hard for a reason.

Trust her, you will thank her later.

4. That boy? Yeah, he's nothing compared to what you will have in a few years.

It's all a learning experience. Be upset and then know your worth and set your standards high, they will be reached. Don't accept anything less.

5. You've made so many good decisions, you should be proud.

You are great, even if your friends are doing other pastimes.

The drinking and partying aren't worth it. Wait until college. If you do it, do it responsibly and with people you can trust. Be safe. You can have fun without drugs and alcohol.

6. Be active in school.

Do the extracurriculars, play the sports, be a part of the community. Even though you did this, it wasn't always willingly. You may think they're a waste of time but colleges will appreciate it. Believe me!

7. The friends you have will not be there forever.

You will grow apart and that is okay, learn to except it but appreciate it while they're there. You will miss them and only memories will last.

8. Take pictures!

No matter how "hideous" you think you are or find yourself to be later on. You will look back and smile, I promise.

9. Love yourself.

You are great and beautiful no matter what, even with your faults. Love yourself and you will be loved in return.

10. Enjoy high school.

Instead of rushing time to get out and go to college and blah blah. Live in the moment. Laugh, smile, appreciate the time you have there. Those friends, teachers, moments won't be around again. You have one chance, make the most of it in the best way possible.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
