10 Things I Hate About You, Texas
My Neon Picket Fence

Oh, Texas.

You've been there for all my life. You are present in my nearly every conversation, be through "Y'all" or "Bless your heart." You taught me there's only two seasons, summer and not summer. You told me that football is truly the only sport, even though I didn't listen (Go Rangers). Your constant construction status at any given time make me want to scream. Honestly, there are 10 things I hate about you Texas.

1. I hate your driving standards, it makes me hate every out of stater.

2. I hate your weather and how it always keeps me on my toes.

3. I hate how I make good friends and get so excited they live in Texas, only to figure out they live 9 hrs from me.

4. I hate how I can drive 9 hours to a Texas beach, or 12 hours to a beach in Florida.

5. I hate the way you enchant me with your beautiful hills, and then hit me dry flat lands.

6. I hate when you convince me its about to be summer, and then surprise me with 6 more weeks of winter.

7. I hate how everything has to be bigger.

8. I hate how Texas culture makes me a foreigner in any other state, country, place.

9. I hate how you make the only good Mexican food.

10. Mostly, I hate that I don't even hate you, not even a little bit, not even at all.

Thanks for making me, me Texas.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
