10 Things Grocery Store Cashiers Hate

Working retail will make you hate the general public, I promise!

1. Closing Time

As a cashier, there is nothing I hate more than when customers decide to come and shop five minutes before the store closes. You have had all day and you choose to come at 10:55 PM, why?

2. Bagging Groceries

It is a pain in the ass. The plastic bags stick together and break all the time. The paper bags and the recyclable bags just make the bagging process difficult. Then your customers are like "Can you double bag that?" "Don't squish my bread." "Don't bag this with that." "Don't make the bags to heavy." Seriously, I know how to bag groceries you don't have to tell me.

3. "Since it won't ring up that means it is free."

If I had a dollar for every time a customer has said this to me I would be a millionaire. Sometimes items bar codes are messed up or they just won't ring up. This doesn't mean that it is free I promise. It just means I have to go get a new one of the same item that will ring up. Then I rarely get a thank you for going back to get another item.

4. Getting Buggies

Unfortunately, the store I work at cashiers are required to get buggies. It really is a pain in the ass getting them. During the winter you literally freeze to death. During the summer you feel like you are going to die from the heat. It is just not fun at all.

5. "I just printed that hundred dollar bill this morning"

Another customer quote I hate. Sorry it is my job to make sure it is real.

6. Loud, Screaming Children

Please learn how to control your children. The grocery store is not a play ground.

7. When customers leave perishable items anywhere they want to.

Put it back where it came from or give it to me to put back. It is really not that hard.

8. Coupons

Coupons literally suck. Do you think I have time to scan your five million coupons for things you do not even need? Sure let me take the time to scan all your coupons when I literally have about ten people in my line but sure, let me make sure you get your ten cents off your detergent. When the coupon does not work it means you didn't get the right item most likely.

9. Throwing your groceries at me.

Sorry someone pissed in your corn flakes but, do not throw your groceries on to my belt.

10. Rude Customers

I try my best to be nice and friendly to everyone who comes though my line but it never fails, every time I work a rude customer will come through my line and ruin my nice and friendly mood.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
