We live and breathe our fandoms.

10 Things Only Fan Girls Understand

Being a Fan Girl isn't all full of happiness and rainbows. There's a lot that happens when a person commits to a fandom.

1. Referencing your fandom-- and no one gets it.

This happens to me all the time in casual conversation. I think I'm being funny and I'm so cool because the one liner I used from "Supernatural" fit perfectly, but the person I'm talking to just kinda looks at me like:

2. Trigger words

Words or phrases that belong to your fandom are never heard the same ever again. And usually these triggers have a tendency to tear you into an emotional wreck. To all my Whovians: Rose.

3. Learning to not get too attached to character

When you're a fan girl, you learn that everyone you love (in the show) will die. Unless they're a character that the show cannot progress without, something will happen to them. Usually tragic. Usually death. Usually someone that the fandom has grown to love. And the fan girls just have to carry on pretending like everything's okay.

4. When the people around you get annoyed with your obsession

I didn't realize how much I was obsessed with "Supernatural" until every day my dad would ask me how my day went the first few words out of my mouth were, "On this episode of "Supernatural"--" After a while, instead of asking "how was your day?" my dad would ask, "what happened on Supernatural?"

5. Spoilers!

It's the absolute worst when you're not caught up on your show and a friend tries to gauge where you are in the show by guessing the most tragic thing that happened and they end up revealing a spoiler.

6. Haters

When you tell a friend your fandom and they say "I hate that show." They are no longer your friend!

Anyone that has seen your favorite show has to love it because it's the best! You cannot comprehend how anyone could hate it because it's absolutely flawless and for someone to dislike it just doesn't make sense.

7. Being asked about the future.

When somebody asks me what I want to do with my life, but I've been avoiding reality, all responsibility, and spend most of my time watching or doing "Supernatural" related things, so I'm just like:

8. Conventions

Constantly checking when and where the nearest fandom convention is, and knowing that if you ever meet the cast of the show you will die.

9. Ships.

I'm not talking about boats, or sending a package somewhere, I'm talking about when you desperately want two characters from your show to be in a relationship. Example: Ten/Rose, Johnlock, and Destiel.

10. Being emotionally wrecked after an episode and having to wait

Everything is fine and dandy when you can binge watch your show on Netflix, but when your all caught up and forced to go week by week for an episode, or even worse: months, it is devastating. You're forced to by the time between seasons by watching bloopers or convention moments on YouTube, search the hashtags on Tumblr, or try to pretend the season is still going by reading fan fiction.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
