This semester, I've had the pleasure of attending an 8:30 am Chemistry class (I'm a liberal arts major). Every morning on Mondays and Thursdays, I dread waking up to my 8:15 alarm and booking it to class. As you can imagine, I'm usually late and in the worst mood possible. Recently, I've been trying to change my dysfunctional routine, giving myself more time to prepare for the day. Here are ten things I try to do every morning to better adjust my morning class and the day ahead.

1. Set One Alarm as a 10 Minute Warning

I used to set six alarms for no other reason than to feel relieved that I didn't have to get up right away. The problem here is that I never really went back to sleep; I was always worried about the next alarm. Save yourself the trouble and set just one alarm 10 minutes before you actually need to get up.

2. Write down 5 positive things

I know it sounds cheesy, but think of just five positive things to jumpstart your day. If you have an early class like me, you tend to wake up in a mood far from positive. Challenge yourself to think of the things you're grateful for.

3. Stretch it out!

Let it out! Stretch your body and let out a loud yawn (only if your roommate isn't in the room, of course). That always helps me blow off a little steam before getting ready for class.

4. Open a Window

Let the light in! Nothing puts me in a better mood than natural light. Watch the people below and enjoy the day as you get ready.

5. Eat a Power Bar

I tend to get somewhat nauseous in the morning, and I'm never hungry right away. Force yourself to eat something fast and nutritious to keep your stomach from making noise in class.

6. Make Your Bed

If you don't make your bed, chances are you are going to return to it when you get back from your morning class. If you are anything like me, you wake up from naps groggy and bitter. Try not to tempt yourself.

7. Dress the way you want to be dressed the rest of the day

It always makes me feel better when I'm wearing something I feel confident in. Although I have no problem attending class in sweats and a sports bra, I feel better when I put more time into my appearance.

8. Prepare the night before

Especially if your roommate is still sleeping and you need to get ready in the dark, help yourself out. Put what you are going to wear out on your desk the night before, and make sure your books are all packed. There is no need to add more stress to your day by freaking out in the morning when you can't find your Philosophy book.

9. Listen to Music on the way to class

Listen to a song or two as you walk to class. Or if you are like me, listen to some standup. That always seems to better my early-morning mood.

10. Get yourself a walking buddy

If you have a friend in your morning class, preferably one living in the same dorm, walk with them to class! This pressures you to get ready on time every time. Also, it's nice to see a friend first thing in the morning.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
