In college, it sometimes seems like going out and partying is the only thing you can do in your free time. There are plenty of other things to do, but if partying is more your speed that’s perfectly okay.

I’m sure you’ve heard the whole "keep an eye on your surroundings" speech a million times, so I will spare you it. But there are a few things you should know before going out.

1. Most date rape drugs are undetectable

They are colorless, odorless, and even tasteless. However, there are products you can buy to detect certain types of drugs.

2. Alcohol can cause a person to consent to sexual encounters they normally wouldn’t while sober

You might not be interested in having sex when you leave, but you may start to change your mind as the night goes on. Don't worry, you don't have to agree to anything and the feelings will probably fade.

3.Rohypnol, a popular type of date rape drug, is about 10 times more potent than Valium.

It can be traced in your urine for up to 72 hours after ingesting and can land a person a three month prison sentence if caught.

4. Benadryl is commonly used as a substitute

It's a pretty common thing to have and often causes drowsiness. Although Rohypnol costs less than $5, it's illegal to possess, unlike Benadryl.

5. It doesn’t matter what you have on to become a rape victim

You don't have to dress provocatively to be taken advantage of. It can happen to anyone at any time.

6. No means no

You don't have to do anything you're uncomfortable with.

7. Just because you’re under the influence doesn’t mean you can’t report it

There are laws in place that won't get you in trouble with the state for drinking underage.

8. Help is available

If you need someone to talk to, there are resources available on campus.

9. Keep your friends close

Be aware of your surroundings at all times and always have someone you truly trust close-by.

10.Leave with whom you came

Sure you might lust after someone in the moment, but it's best you and your friends look after each other and make sure everyone gets home safely. If you and the other person are still mutually interested in one another when you're both sober, then you can proceed from there.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
