You've reached the high school or college phase of your life and all of the sudden the endless energy you used to enjoy ha been tapped out. Its gone. The old days of running around in the backyard and swimming in pools for hours on end is over. For some reason you wake up tired and spend a lot of your time tired. Sometimes school, a new TV show, or any other kind of distraction is the cause of your exhaustion and other times your sluggishness remains a mystery. If this is not true for you, you are one of the lucky ones, but if it is there are some things us perpetually tired people know for sure.
1. The Golden Rule is no longer treat others has you would want to be treated. No, no now it is "Nap whenever you find the space or time." Of course along with that is a rule equally if not more important: "Never, EVER, wake a napper before they have to wake up."
2. Constant hydration is necessary. Whether this hydration is done with coffee, caffeinated drinks, water, or any other liquids the moral of the story is: hydration is key. When you start getting tired while driving, you take a sip of something. When you are mid-day yawning a coffee cup is not far from your lips.
3. Working out is supposed to help build endorphins and boost energy, but getting the initial motivation to go to the gym or on a run rarely occurs.
4. Making the decision to be social is the hardest one you will make all day. Its not that you don't want to have fun, but you literally aren't sure you will survive that much activity.
5. Sleeping for long stretches of time does not always cure tiredness. In fact somehow the nights you get the most sleep you seem to wake up MORE tired.
6. Long driving means rolling down the windows, slapping legs/face/ and any other part of the body that is non-essential to my driving. Of course these long drives are also fueled by gas station snack and loud personal concerts. Without these tricks you would have had your license revoked long ago.
7. Kids are evil energy filled beings that you no longer understand. Not only is their constant energy and desire to "do stuff" insulting to your exhaustion it also makes you even more tired watching them do things.
8. Sometimes when you fall asleep you already look forward to the nap you will get to take tomorrow between responsibilities.
9. Not to mention you plan naps in your schedule like the necessity that they are. Your Monday schedule for example:
9:30 Wake up
10:20 Class
11:50 Lunch
1:00 Work out
3:30 Nap
5:00 Class
7:20 Nap again
10. And of course last but not least, if you are always tired you know that those precious few days when you wake up and have energy are meant to be cherished.
