No matter your riding abilities, you'll definitely be able to relate to these 10 things.
There are tons of things that equestrians do on a regular basis that would cause most people to raise an eyebrow. Whether it is our weird horse show superstitions or our insane interpretation of the word cheap, equestrians are a special type of people. At the end of the day, it comes down to our love for the sport and our love for the animals with which we work. But there are definitely some crazy things that everyone who grew up with horses in their lives can relate to. Here are the top 10 I came up with.
1. Smelling the jackets in your closet to make sure they don't smell like horse before wearing them to school or work.
Don't tell me you've never put those jackets you wore to the barn back in your closet because I know you definitely have. Nobody has time to wash their jackets every single day.
2. You've probably worn those horse smelling jackets to school or work anyway.
Because it smells a lot better than perfume.
3. You've totally been the kid that set up fake horse jumps in your backyard and skipped over them like you were cantering.
I definitely don't still do this as a junior in high school or anything...
4. Going to horse shows instead of social events.
"Sorry, I can't go, I have a horse show" is probably a very common line in your life.
5. Freezing to death in the winter or sweating to death in the summer.
Show clothes do a great job of keeping us insanely hot in the summer, and insanely cold in the winter. There's no winning with the weather.
6. You've probably had a horse on your Christmas list multiple times.
My biggest dream as a little kid was to wake up and find a horse under the Christmas tree. While that's not exactly how it happened, my amazing friends made sure I did get my horse with red bows on his halter.
7. Spending all your money on your horse.
"Where'd my money go? Oh yeah, I bought that blanket for my horse and his new half pad.. oh and those bell boots for him. I think I ordered him a bag of treats too. And those farrier bills happened. Oops."
8. Owning tons of saddle pads.
Don't lie to yourself. You definitely used to have that huge collection of saddle pads.
9. Eating dirt.
We all fall off. We can all relate.
10. Loving our horses.
Whether you ride English or Western, show hunters or eventing, barrels or pleasure, deep down we all love those incredible animals that allow us to do what we do. And I definitely know we all have that in common.
