10 Texts You Send Your College Friends Over The Summer
Katie C.

It's only been a month into summer vacation and I'm eagerly counting down the days till I can go back to school. Though I'm not ready for early morning classes, 10 page papers, and communal bathrooms again, I am ready to be back with the people that make it all worth it. When you go to college, most likely most of the people you meet aren't from your small town or big city. They come from all over, which definitely has its perks but has its drawbacks as well. The number 1 drawback is easy, when summer vacation rolls around you all become separated for 3 months and rely on snapchats, group chats, and FaceTime to keep in touch. Or, if you're like me and my roommate, you fly to each other because the distance is just too much. Here are 10 texts you send if you are in a long distance friendship with your college friends...

1. "You'll never guess what happened..."

You text this at least 7 times a day because you probably feel the need to fill in your friends with every detail of your life as if you were still living with each other.

2. "Call me."

Whether you're out in public alone and need to look like you have friends, are driving and can't listen to that Ed Sheeran song for the millionth time, or you just really need to hear their voice

3. "Did you see what *insert name* posted on Instagram today?"

You probably have that one person that is completely cringe worthy or surrounded by drama so when they are seen posting a scandalous picture or a picture with a person you wouldn't expect, you immediately text your friends about it"

4. "What should I eat?"

You're used to eating every meal and midnight snack together so it's only natural they still help you choose what to eat

5. "When are you coming to visit?"

Summer vacations to your friend's hometowns are a must even if its to a small town you normally wouldn't think of traveling to.

6. "Look at what I bought!"

Whether it's for your dorm next year or just a random TJ Maxx haul, you and your friends are always used to shopping sprees together so live through each other's finds

7. "Remember when..."

Because reliving random memories at 2:30 in the morning is always a good thing

8. "I'm bored, stop working."

Your schedules probably don't line up perfectly when you are apart and when you're looking for someone to talk to they may be up to their elbows in whatever work they do, which doesn't always work for you're boredom

9. "Does this look good?"

You're used to borrowing clothes from your roomie or getting fashion advice on that new top you just bought at Francesca's, so putting together you're own outfit alone is a struggle

10. "How many days till we go back?"

As much as you love summer vacation and seeing your home friends, you miss your college friends too and probably have an app to tell you how many days until the band gets back together again.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
