If you live anywhere besides on campus, then congratulations, you’re a commuter student! Don't get me wrong, commuting to campus has some perks, but here are some of the most common struggles we commuter students face:
1. Having to pay for an on campus parking permit
Trust me, these things are NOT cheap either. Who wants to spend upwards of $300 to park their car each semester? Not me.
2. Trying to find street parking
If you're a penny pincher, then hopefully you are good at parallel parking, and keeping track of time. If you're not good at keeping track of time then I hope that you like to race. Against the parking checkers and the meters, to avoid getting a parking ticket.
3. Taking the bus
This option is for the brave souls, who dare to test public transportation.
4. Having to fill your gas tank more often
We are already broke, and no one likes filling up in the first place.
5. Having to wake up earlier
8 am classes are any college students worst nightmare. Now, imagine living 20 minutes away, and having to beat morning traffic. Or, getting stuck in it, and being late for class.
6. Packing a lunch
Ah, just like the good ole' days
7. Packing a lunch, and forgetting it at home
This means you're stuck buying overpriced and below average food on campus, or trying to find a friend to mooch off, because being hangry is not fun.
8.Finding a good study spot
Gaps over an hour are AWFUL for commuter students. We can't go home to nap, and we can't go to class, so we're stuck in awkward places trying to kill time.
9. Getting involved
Most of the time, meetings for student organizations are at night. No one wants to wait around, or come back, because ain't nobody got time for that.
10. Making friends
Not living on campus makes it harder to connect with people. But once you find your people, you'll be inseparable.
