1. You’re no longer easily embarrassed
If I took the time to feel ashamed of myself every time I tripped on the sidewalk, said something weird accidentally, ripped my pants or had a faceplant of epic proportions, I would be living in constant embarrassment. Clumsy people carry a special kind of confidence because they’re not worried about losing their dignity. After all, you can’t lose something you never had to begin with.
2. You have a higher pain tolerance than most
Running into doors, falling off bikes, stubbing toes; your body builds a higher pain tolerance, simply because it has no other choice. Adapt or get left behind?
3. You always carry extra clothes with you
You constantly have to remind yourself that at any given moment you might spill on yourself or sit in gum. We are slightly more prepared for the aforementioned embarrassing moments than mere mortals.
4. You have the best stories
One good thing that comes from all the humiliation is that you seem to have some of the best stories. Your friends introduce you as the one who _______ (insert embarrassing story here). You’re instantly memorable and in some circles pretty legendary. I literally greased the bottom of a cake pan one time seven years ago and my family still tells everyone they meet.
5. You’re pretty good at cheering your friends up
For those that don’t experience shame quite as often, one mortifying moment seems like the end of the world. Luckily, they have you to tell them “at least you didnt_____.”
6. People think you have a really good sense of humor
Chances are you probably do have a good sense of humor. You’ve had to laugh at yourself for years as a coping mechanism. Sometimes though, people think you’re being funny when in reality you just accidentally said or did something stupid. We’ll all take the praise we can get.
7. You don’t feel obligated to wear heels
Graceful girls wear heels to fancy events, ending up in pain, and take their shoes off by the end of the night. Clumsy girls know it’s a lost cause and throw on some flats. Chances are they’ll still take the biggest spill on the dance floor.
8. You seem very approachable
Another bonus of being clumsy; people know you’re down to earth (figuratively, or literally, I may have just tripped over my shoelaces). You are definitely human which can make you appear friendly and approachable without too much effort on your part.
9. You know a few special skills, that only clumsy people can so quickly acquire
When I got first aid certified, I was surprised how much I had already had to do to myself at some point in my life. I know how to lower my backpack straps to cover up the rip in my pants and how to get stains out of clothing. My reflexes have sharpened so much so that when I fall on the stairs, my hands are out to catch me before my brain is even aware I’m falling.
10. Best of all, you learn to see the good in every situation
You’ve had a grade A education in spotting the silver lining. You broke a beaker in the lab? At least you didn’t spill chemicals on yourself. You wiped out on the ice? At least the cute boy from class wasn’t there to see it? The cute boy from class was there to see you wipe out on the ice? At least you have something to talk about.
