Spring 2018 finally arrived on Tuesday, March 21 and Michiganders everywhere are breathing a sigh of relief now that winter is over. Soon, all of us will be walking outside in shorts and a t-shirt even though it's barely breaking 65 degrees because that's warm to us. We stop wearing coats when it hits 50 degrees.

Here 10 signs that spring has sprung in Michigan:

1. Spring also means the beginning of construction season

Ah yes, orange barrel has begun. You can't drive anywhere without spotting a family of orange barrels on main roads, expressways and high ways. Good luck getting anywhere on time.

2. You want to spend every day outside when there's sunshine

Once the sun begin making longer appearances, we want to take advantage of it every day because we barely see the sun for most of the year. Once the first sign of spring arrives, we emerge from cocoon of blankets that we buried ourselves under during our months-long episode of seasonal depression.

3. Ice cream shops open!

It is officially spring when local ice cream shops, Dairy Queen, A&W, Dog & Suds and other seasonal restaurants open.

4. You see people walking around in shorts

Once it hits 60-65 degrees, you can guarantee that us Michiganders will be strutting around outside in shorts.

5. Outdoor festivals

Spring time also means that yearly outdoor festivals, such as Tulip Time in Holland, begin.

6. Restaurants open up outdoor patios

There's nothing better than sitting on an outdoor patio on a sunny evening enjoying a craft brew.

7. The Detroit Tigers are back

I'm not a big fan of Baseball, but the return of the Tigers is always a sign of warmer weather.

8. Oberon Day in Kalamazoo

Oberon Day is a BIG deal in Kalamazoo and also a sign of warmer weather.

9. It's probably rainy and muddy

Another sure sign of spring in Michigan it's likely going to be rainy, muddy and wet, especially in March/April. But hey, we'll take the rain and mud over the snow and ice; at least I will.

10. It might snow ONE MORE FUCKING TIME

It wouldn't be spring in Michigan if we didn't get one last round of snow before the end of April - I just sure as shit hope we don't because at this point, I'm done with snow, ice and cold.

Happy Vernal Equinox!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
