Everyone has their favorite holiday, whether that be Christmas, Valentine's Day, or Fourth of July.
For me, Thanksgiving has always held a special place in my heart. It's so full of tradition, love, and makes you really sit back and think about how blessed you are. Not to mention you get to be surrounded by the people you love most while eating delicious food. Just saying.
1. You get to answer the question “Do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend?” about 80 times.
No Grammy, that boy from freshman year chemistry still hasn’t asked me to be his wife yet. I don’t get it either, so please stop asking. Maybe after that she'll even throw in a bonus question and ask what your plans are after graduation. Here's hoping!
2. The people that pay to run a race on Thanksgiving morning
Me. I am one of “those people.” Why people would pay money to exercise at the crack of dawn is something I will never understand, but you can bet your bottom dollar that my family will run the Turkey Trot every single year. And by "run," I mean walk the mile with my Grammy.
3. Eating until you physically can’t eat anymore
You know the feeling. Pain and agony mixed with pure bliss and a sense of accomplishment. One time, I ate so much I fell asleep on my grandma’s stairs just trying to get up to my bed but I couldn’t even make it that far.
4. Watching football
And by that of course I mean your dad and uncles watch football while you sit there pretending like you know what’s happening, shouting periodically to make it seem convincing. #sports
5. Family
For me, Thanksgiving is always the time I get to see all my cousins and their spouses and puppies (sadly no babies yet) and it’s pretty much the one time every year the whole family is together around one table.
6. The pies
I like to play a game with myself called how many pieces of pie can you shove in your mouth before dying. It's almost like testing the limits of humanity.
7. Leftovers
Is there literally anything out there more delicious than a leftover turkey sandwich the day after Thanksgiving? I'll wait.
8. Black Friday
Ah, Black Friday. The day where people camp outside of Best Buy days before the doors open, trample each other for a Barbie doll or wrestle over the last Lego set. Glorious.
9. Thanksgiving means Christmas is coming soon
32 days to be exact... but who's counting?
10. But most importantly giving thanks
Thanksgiving is truly the best because it reminds us how blessed we are, what's really important in life, and how much we have to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving!
