All country men come with their own special charms: They are the perfect melding of sweetness, strength, and security. It doesn’t hurt that they know how to party and are typically specimens of physical perfection. Here we go, behind the big trucks, big guns, and bravado to explore what really makes country men special.

1. They have the best manners.

Their mamma's raised 'em right. They open doors, pull out your chair at the table, and say, "Yes ma'am" to just about everything you tell them.

2. They're protective.

Country men are raised with the understanding that their job—arguably their most important job—is to protect their women. It doesn't mean they're going around punching dudes out for looking at you. It means they are protective of all of your needs. They will give you the time/space to pursue your career, take time for yourself, or nurture your relationship with your friends.

3. They value family.

Country men are raised in a culture that puts family first. They are fiercely loyal and protective of their loved ones and will always prioritize them over anything else. They value tradition and are taught the importance of a strong family bond from an early age, which means they'll want a family of their own one day!

4. They know the importance of hard work.

These men know that nothing comes easy. They know they have to work for everything they've got, whether that be putting in hours at the farm (I mean, every country man works on a farm, right?), sitting hours in a tree stand waiting for that big 10-pointer to walk on by, or most importantly putting in work on y'all's relationship. These men will work hard to make everything great!

5. They will give you cute pet names.

Sweetheart, sugar, darlin'—we all know cute pet names melt our hearts 10 times more than hearing your man call you by your actual name."Come on over here, Courtnie." How about, "Come on over here, sugar"? Much better!

6. They love a good hunting dog.

Which means you can bring just about any pup home you want, and your man won't roll his eyes, sigh, and ask, "Where'd you find this one?" As long as you bring home a pup that can be well trained, listens, and will carry anything back in that your man shoots.

7. They are masculine.

There is something fundamentally attractive about a man who acts like, well, a man. This may seem obvious, but let me tell you from personal experience, there are just some men out there who have a bit more femininity in them than I prefer. I mean, if you spend more time in the bathroom than me getting ready, that's a problem. Don't get me wrong, that might be your cup of tea when choosing a man, but I want my man out of the bathroom/my way as soon as possible!

8. They aren't afraid of a woman who gets down and dirty.

In fact, these men absolutely light up at the sign of a woman whose down to get dirty, kick off her shoes, grab a beer, and get outside with the guys. Whether it be reeling in largemouth bass on the lake, slapping on some face paint and camo to go hunting with your man, or muddin' around in trucks and four wheelers. These men love a gal who ain't afraid of a little dirt!

9. They can cook a mean meal.

Not only can these men hunt for our food, but they know just how to cook it up, too. From comfort food to barbecue, they can feed you right.

10. They wear boots.

Country men have mastered the art of making cowboy boots work with just about any ensemble. Whether they're paired with a rugged pair of Wranglers and a T-shirt or dressed up in a suit (with a cowboy hat to put the entire piece together), these men clean up nice.

11. They love to be on the road.

Sometimes all you need is a warm summer night, a handsome man, a truck, the windows down, and the music up loud (obviously country—there's really no other kind).

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
