Mom, it is so fitting that your favorite flower is a sunflower and that your favorite color is yellow, because that's just who you are. When I was little, I remember how you'd always sing to me "You Are My Sunshine" and this Mother's Day, I want to turn it around on you, and share with you why you're my sunshine and why I love you oh so much.

1. You're never phased by me when I panic or freak out about something, and somehow, after talking with you, I leave feeling like it's all going to be ok.

2. Whenever you get in a giggly silly mood, and I can't help but join along.

3. All those moments—usually with dad—when a silent understanding has passed between us, and I know that we, mother and daughter, have just had the same thought.

4. How you always shower me with love notes, making me feel extra special by leaving me goodnight notes when I'm out late, or sending me a gajillion letters when I'm away at college.

5. How you hum when you're walking around the house, cooking, or just working on something.

6. That you love to gush over sappy romantic movies with me, and then laugh at ourselves later for how pathetic we are.

7. How you have always made sure to model for me what it is to be a strong, assertive woman capable of leading others.

8. And yet you have also been selfless and sacrificial, because you have a fierce love and devotion to us, your family.

9. That you constantly point me back to God, showing me how he has been there for me, reminding me he has a plan for my life.

10. Overall, mom, you're just really, really cool.
