As a college student living on my own, I've kind of started to see just how hard the real world is, as well as appreciate everything my parents did for me growing up even more. So here are ten reasons why being an adult is hard.
1. The saying "money doesn't grow on trees" really starts ringing true.
With a job and money of your own, things like gas, groceries, and other necessities take top priority, not leaving much to spend on things you actually want.
2. Having to grocery shop. What do I even need to buy? Milk just always magically appeared in my fridge.
3. Taking care of your car. This one is probably more applicable to the ladies out there...but how does one change oil?
4. Trying not to be exhausted. How do parents still have energy after an 8 hour work day to do things around the house? And then wake up and do it all over the next day? It's hard to survive one day without at least one nap.
5. Making doctor's appointments. Are you sure you can't call for me mom?
6. Managing your time. How does one go to class, work, and still find time for fun to remain sane?
7. Seeing how expensive life is. And then realizing that shopping sprees aren't an option anymore when rent is due next month.
8. Trying not to spend all of your paycheck on fast food. I know for me personally, it's always crazy how much money I spend on fast food. It's convenient when you're busy, but also extremely unhealthy and adds up very quickly.
9. Losing friends. As you grow up, you also grow apart from people in your life that you thought would be there forever and that's okay. Sometimes we just travel different paths and realize we aren't as compatible anymore.
10. Reaching the age you used to think was "old". So now that I'm 20, I guess all the 14-year-olds in the world are calling me old now.
Overall, growing up and becoming an adult isn't always a bad thing; there are some positives that come with it too. However, just like most things in life, it really shows you just how grateful you should be for your parents and all that they do!
