I've lived away from my parents before, for the last couple years actually, but I've never been all by myself. I've always had someone with me, most recently my best friend. But this year our paths have gone separate ways, and I got an apartment on my own. I know it's not just me who's wondered some of these, here are 10 questions you'll ask the first month you live alone:
1. How do I turn this on?
Flashback to the time I called maintenance because I didn't know how to light my gas stove and thought my apartment was going to explode.
2. Which one is the hot water, and which one is the cold?
I ask myself this every day, no joke.
3. I have to take the trash out...?
Ok, that's new.
4. What do I do with the end pieces of bread?
I'm pretty sure dads are the only people who actually eat those.
5. Why am I consistently watching HGTV?
I think I've watched like two four-hour marathons of Fixer Upper... No shame.
6. Why can't I find any clean underwear?
Oh yeah, cause I haven't done laundry in three weeks!
7. What is that sound?
It's my neighbor who is a.) screaming at his dogs, b.) screaming at his wife, or c.) starting his incredibly loud motorcycle directly outside my open window at 7 am.
8. What is that smell?
Also probably my neighbor.
9. How many times can the average person eat Subway a week?
Because I shamelessly go every day. They know my name and order.
10. When can I go home?
Even though I like living alone and feeling like a grown adult sometimes, I miss home. I miss my family. I miss my dogs. I'll be back soon!
