10 Questions I STILL Have About Dorm Life After More Than A Year
Kinga Cichewicz

I've only lived in two different dorms for a total of a year and a half (almost), but there are some things that still confuse me. Most of these have to do with the people that I live with, and why they are the way they are.

This will probably get gross, so readers beware.

1. Why do people shower at 4 a.m.?

Sure, I get that insomnia is a thing, but who decides that 4 am is the ideal time to shower? Are you that busy? Are you okay?

2. Who decided that tuna is legal in dorms?

It stinks up the entire hallway, and the nauseating scent takes too long to dissipate. I get that you're trying to be healthy and tuna is extremely convenient, but it smells awful.

3. Why are you screaming?

It doesn't matter what time of the day, what day of the week, or time of year. There is always someone screaming. Please stop screaming.

4. Why do you think I need to bathe in your perfume?

I'll just be walking through the hallway, minding my own business, when a cloud of noxious vapor intrudes my lungs. I needed to choke today, so thank you. By the way — your perfume does NOT mask the reek of tuna and ramen.

5. Do you really think we don't all hear your bed squeaking in a weirdly regular rhythm?

We know what you're doing.

6. Why do people insist on talking on their phones in the hallway?

If you truly think that your roommate can't hear you, they can. We all can.

7. Why is the shower suddenly your own personal concert?

OK, confession, I get it. However, there is a limit as to how loud your music should be. Also, don't play music that loud in the showers after 11 pm. This isn't "Pitch Perfect."

8. How have I managed to find underwear in the showers - TWICE?

No further comments needed.

9. How do the bathrooms manage to get so disgusting after only 24 hours?

They clean the bathrooms every day, and yet you would think it's been a week between each cleaning.

10. Who keeps setting off the fire alarm?

Seriously, I will find you.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
