In the past, I have never really stuck with a resolution, like many people. 2017 was good, but I hope for an even better 2018, so I plan on picking a New Year's resolution that is both realistic and beneficial.
Whatever I decide to change in the new year, I plan on sticking with it for as long as I can to improve my well-being and to feel better about myself. Below are 10 possible resolutions, some for myself as a college student and some for others. It is easier to reach one realistic goal than to attempt to work on several, so it is best to focus on a particular resolution that would best fit your personal needs.
1. Spend less time looking at your iPhone/scrolling through social media
I know this can be difficult, but it is important to live in the moment.
2. Exercise more often (to feel better, not necessarily to lose weight or look a certain way)
Pick an activity you enjoy! If you hate running, you could go for long walks.
3. Think more positively
If you catch yourself thinking negatively, try to look on the brighter side.
4. Make meditation/mindfulness part of your routine
There are a lot of good apps for this, like Headspace.
5. Serve the community or get involved in something
Volunteer for a local organization once a week or join a club.
6. Get a better night's sleep
Sleep is very important.
7. Cut down on caffeine/eliminate it
If you drink too much coffee, consider decaf coffee or tea.
8. Work harder in school (if you are slacking)
You may need to put in more hours at the library.
9. Have more fun (if you are working hard)
Make sure to spend some time with friends and family.
10. Spend less money on things you don't need
This includes Starbucks.
2018 is going to be great!
