"Netflix Original" shows are all the rage these days. Who needs cable television anymore? Now you can just watch your favorite cable tv shows AND a crap ton of new awesome shows all from your laptop!! (and you can watch most of them all in one day I might add).
Now we all know the hugely popular and fantastic Netflix originals like "Orange is the New Black," "House of Cards," "Stranger Things," "Narcos," and "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," all of which are some of my absolute favorite shows ever (Titus Andromedon is my hero), however, there are SO many good Netflix originals that nobody's talking about!
Here are 10 shows you should definitely consider checking out on Netflix while you're avoiding all of the homework that you know you should be doing instead.
1. 'Dear White People'
Of course, I'm going to start out with the most political one, because who doesn't love a show that makes white racist assholes squirm in their seats, am I right? This show is based off the movie of the same name that came out in 2014. It follows a group of students of color at a fictional ivy league college after a black-face party is thrown at the school.
This show is full of humor but is also true to the racial social justice movement that is happening in the world right now. So if you're feeling "woke af" but also want a funny, relatable story about college in 2017, you should absolutely check this show out!
2. 'Bloodline'
This show actually took some time for me to really get into. This dramatic thriller follows a seemingly perfect family that runs a vacation resort in the Florida Keys, but this family has hella secrets going on in the background.
Once you get past the first few episodes of this show, you will be HOOKED. There are so many secrets that you can't just not find out about. Also, if you're a "Friday Night Lights" fan, you should definitely check this out, because Kyle Chandler is such a hunk.
3. 'Santa Clarita Diet'
If you love Drew Barrymore as much as I do, you NEED to watch this show. Honestly, I thought the whole premise of this show was super dumb at first, but I wanted to watch it because Drew is a goddess. But the show is actually fucking HILARIOUS.
It's basically about this cute suburban family, but plot twist, the mom turns into a zombie and has to eat human flesh to survive! I was surprised by how amazing every single actor is in this show (especially the chick who plays the daughter she SLAYS, ok).
4. 'Love'
This super cute and hilarious show follows the quirky relationship between a super nice and yet incredible awkward guy and a wild, sex-addicted girl. The characters are so lovable and relatable, you're really not going to want to stop watching this (and unlike most of the new Netflix originals, it has two seasons! Even more opportunities to waste time binge watching instead of studying yay!).
This isn't your stereotypical rom-com either. The characters are very unique and the story takes some interesting turns. Definitely a must-watch.
5. 'Wet Hot American Summer First Day of Camp'
If you watched the original movie that was made in 2001, you absolutely NEED to watch this series. All the original actors come back to reprise their characters, and it's some of the funniest shit I've ever seen. The entire show takes place during the first day of summer camp, unlike the movie which takes place during the last day. If you're in love with classic 2000 era comedians like Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, and Elizabeth Banks, definitely check this baby out. And go ahead and watch the original movie while you're at it! (Also, Netflix just came out with Wet Hot American Summer 10 Years Later, which I didn't like as much but still would recommend watching if you need more Wet Hot American Summer shit in your life).
6. 'Atypical'
This show got a little buzz in the media when it first came out, but I haven't really heard anyone talk about it since, so I added it to the list! This show is about a high school senior dude with autism. It shows his first experiences with having a crush, having his first girlfriend, and trying to figure out this crazy little thing called "love"! It's a really lovable story with incredibly lovable characters. It will make you laugh out loud and it will also make your heart hurt. And I think it does a pretty good job of representing a person with autism, although of course, it can't represent every type of autism that exists because autism is a spectrum and everyone's experiences are totally different.
7. 'Bill Nye Saves The World'
I know all you millennials out there were forced to watch Bill Nye The Science Guy in elementary school at least once a week (and I know all of you loved it, even if you can't admit it). Well, this show is basically like the adult version of the original show! The science guy is back in town baby! And he's savage af. He talks about topics like Artificial Intelligence, GMOs, and even sex! Yes, you get to here Bill Nye say the word "sexier." It's pretty great.
8. 'Chewing Gum'
Another show with two seasons yay! This incredibly quirky and honestly pretty vulgar show follows a 24-year-old virgin who grew up in a super religious household, but now she really just wants to get it on! If you enjoy British humor, definitely give this one a shot!
According to the Netflix reviews, you're either going to fall in love with this or think it's complete trash, so if you're not okay with some pretty vulgar sex language and plenty of awkward sexual situations, maybe sit this one out.
9. 'Easy'
This show is super interesting because each episode is a completely different plot with different characters! (But as you've probably already guessed, yes the characters are all kinda connected!). It tells eight separate stories of modern love in Chicago. This show is so relatable and lovable.
Each story is incredibly enticing. My favorite is probably the second episode. There's a super hot and actually realistic lesbian sex scene. This is probably my favorite hidden Netflix original gem on this list, so everybody should definitely check it out.
10. 'Grace and Frankie'
Honestly, I saved the best for last. This one I wouldn't say is a hidden show that no one is talking about, but it's not incredibly popular among people our age when it definitely should be! This show is about, you guessed it, Grace and Frankie.
They recently divorced their husbands because their husbands happened to be super gay for each other! These two ladies are seriously friendship GOALS. I've watched this show multiple times and I love it so much more every time. Also, who doesn't love Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin?!
