Many of us spend so much time traveling outside of the country in search of a beautiful landscape or an amazing adventure when we could be spending just as much time exploring the beauty within the United States borders.

Here are 10 national parks that will give you jaw-dropping views and creative adventures.

1. Yellowstone National Park

The think wilderness of this park lies on top of a volcanic hotspot that leads way to dramatic canyons, bustling rivers, lush forest grounds, geysers and hot springs. The park is home to lots of bears, wolves and antelope. Yellowstone attracts thousands of visitors every year, for obviously good reasons.

2. Yosemite National Park

Located in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, Yosemite is known for its ancient sequoia trees and giant cliffs. The Ice Age glaciers shape the park and, next to the waterfalls, are main reasons for visiting

3. Zion National Park

Home to the red rocks, Zion National Park in Utah was formed by the Virgin River millions of years ago and is now displays one of the most beautiful sights in the United States. Whether you like to hike, bike, or ride ATV's throughout the mountains, Zion has endless adventure opportunities.

4. Glacier National Park

With over 1,500 square miles of wilderness, Glacier National Park shows the magnificence behind glacier-carved peaks and deep valleys that run past the Canadian border. Visitors go to Glacier National Park for extreme backpacking, hiking and camping.

5. Acadia National Park

Located on the coast of Maine, Acadia National Park's seaside cliffs add life to its grounds. Thunder Hole gives visitors a thrilling experience as you listen to the violence of the sea crash into the shallow cliff, and Cadillac Mountain allow you to be the first person in the United States to witness the sunrise.

6. Denali National Park

Alaska is already known for its wintery landscapes, and Denali National Park encompasses predominantly all of that land with 6 million acres of land under its title. It is home to North America's largest peak, Mount McKinley, and its inhabitants include grizzly bears, wolves, moose and caribou to name a few.

7. Everglades National Park

The southern tip of Florida is covered in the lowland, slow-moving rivers and grassy marshes that make up the Everglades. This park is home to thousands of species, land and marine. The Florida panther and West Indian manatee are a couple of the most spectacular.

8. Redwood National Park

Calling all tree huggers, Redwood National Park is a collection of protected forests, beaches and grasslands. Many refer to the redwoods as the tallest trees on Earth and make it easy to feel as if you're lost in an enchanted fairytale.

9. Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Despite the devastating outburst of fires occurring in the Smoky Mountains in 2016, the park has proven to maintain healthy ecosystems and still provide some of the greatest hikes in the Midwest. Streams, rivers and waterfalls make their way throughout the mountains and Clingmans Dome offers scenic views of the foggy mountain peaks.

10. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Located on the "Big Island," this park lies at the heart of two of Hawaii's most active volcanoes. The park displays not only the fascinating world of volcanoes but allows visitors to explore the culture of the tropical state.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
