There’s only one good way to start off October and that’s with the best Halloween movies! I’m not necessarily talking scary movies, that would make for another list all together. I mean the best Halloween theme movies for all age
1. The Nightmare Before Christmas
Some may consider this both a Halloween and a Christmas film. I’m going to list as a classic Halloween film. What makes this film a great way to start October? Well, first it was the first Halloween themed movie I saw as a child. The comedy and the horror of a skeleton trying to incorporate Christmas into a land that only knows Halloween is something I could watch again and again. Long Live the Pumpkin King!
2. Corpse Bride
Another Tim Burton movie that I find a classic for Halloween. Welcome the bride who comes back to Earth for a short time seeking vengeance in this animated feature. She learns the truth of her death on her wedding day and may save someone else from the same fate.
3. The Little Vampire
I don’t know why, but to this day I adore this movie. It was cute. A little boy has dreams of a vampire clan’s curse, but is shocked when he actually meets a vampire. This movie is a tale of one little boy who befriends a vampire and his family and helps them to break the curse. A must watch for me every year and sadly one that I have been unable to find for my collection.
4. Halloweentown
This Disney Channel original is another must watch. I don’t care much for the sequels, but this movie is fantastic. You should watch this movie if for no other reason than to enjoy Debbie Reynolds as the with Aggie. But the tale of Aggie’s granddaughter, Marni and how a family comes together to save Halloweentown from Kalabar is a great movie for all ages.
5. Hotel Transylvania and Hotel Transylvania 2
I’m going to list both of these movies together. Come join Dracula and his other horror themed friends at his hotel for fun and adventure for all ages. Watch as these monsters learn to integrate with humans and join the laughs along the way.
6. Beetlejuice
Beetejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Let’s not forget this classic Halloween movie of the mischievous Beeteljuice. That will in the queue to watch all October long.
7. Casper
Another one of my favorites! October and Halloween just wouldn’t be the same without watching Casper the friendly ghost. I look forward each year to joining Kat in the haunted mansion and her friendship with Casper.
8. Coraline
Maybe not one of my favorites, but nonetheless my October would not be complete without this movie. This girl who visits a parallel world through a crawlspace discovers it may not be so horrible staying where she’s at in her own world.
9. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
I grew up watching this special every year on television. October and Halloween just doesn’t feel the same without watching the Charlie Brown special. It also puts to mind other childhood memories of a local pumpkin patch with a big stuffed “Great Pumpkin”.
10. Hocus Pocus
“It’s just a little hocus pocus.” Last but not least, there is no escaping Halloween without at least one night with the Sanderson sisters. I literally wait all year long just to watch this movie in the spirit of Halloween. I know I own the DVD, I can watch it whenever. But something about watching it during the month of October and remembering when it was nothing more than a tv special that you could catch once a year make it a bit more special and well worth the wait.
